By Multifaculty   |   Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR)
Learners enrolled: 6664
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Virtual Centre Clinical Pharmacology (NvCCP) Prescribing Skills course for Indian Medical Graduates has been launched to improve prescription practices in India.

“Prescribing skill” has been recognized by the Board of Governors (BoG) in supersession of Medical Council of India (MCI) as a “Must Know” entity in its curriculum for Medical Graduates. A pilot study conducted among first-year resident doctors on the assessment of prescribing skills revealed the unpreparedness for the rational prescription. Inappropriate prescribing results in insufficient or delayed recovery, increased risk of preventable harm/adverse drug reaction, development of antimicrobial resistance, and increased cost of therapy to the patient.

Considering the inadequacies of Prescribing Skills in India, Dr. Balram Bhargava, Secretary to the Govt. of India and Director General, ICMR, Dept. of Health Research is delighted to launch this course on Prescribing skills for Indian Medical Graduates (IMG).

This course has been developed by experts from departments of Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical disciplines, and Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) located in 15 ICMR Rational use of Medicines centres from top medical colleges across India. The ICMR- NvCCP network, guided by ICMR-Technical Advisory Group (TAG) has peer-reviewed this course along with clinical experts from New Delhi and Mumbai.

This online course has been designed as per the Specific Learning Objectives (SLOs) of the MCI curriculum. It consists of 40 video lectures in the form of presentation slides which are practical case-based and provide an array of resource materials. The course can be accessed on all digital platforms as per the convenience of IMGs.
