If we talk about western life style and the theories given by western scholars, we see that these theories are being accepted, taught and practised by Indian management students and managers. but countries like us who cannot afford such a luxurious lifestyle, cannot succeed economically and socially by blindly following the western management techniques. We, as Indians have a unique living style and social system which needs the support of our own economic and business management system to develop an efficient society and economy.
But we are following the management techniques of the western countries which are richer than us in resources. This irony may take the country downward. Hence, we should bring changes to the management courses and produce such managers who are skilled to work in our economy as per our unique needs. Our ancient management systems were working on the sustainability of the planet rather than encouraging consumerism.
Most of the people in India are working on Mahabharata, Gita, and Vedas, but other ancient religious pieces of literature also have a lot of information on subjects like science, mathematics, music, astronomy, geography, and management etc. which deserve thorough study of the applied management concepts.
Devdutt Pattnaik's work is also worth mentioning. But still much is unexplored and needs attention..... The course is divided into twelve units. These units will be covered in video lectures, study material, books and references with an approach to make the ancient concepts of management clear to the budding managers of India, so that they can practise these concepts in their future career as managers in the corporates.
Introductory Unit

2. Ancient Indian Management
3. Management Perspective of Ancient Indian Literature

5. Management in Bhagavad Gita

8. Assignment/Questions to ponder
I am Dr. Alka Jain, instructor for the course- Ancient Indian Management.
I am teaching various management topics to MBA and PGDM programs for last 12 years.
My interest in ancient Indian management developed when I started studying the literature and found that each and every religious book is a handbook of applied management in real life.
Just that these books – our Vedas and other granthas have not been interpreted this way.
Management skills of Time management, self-management, conflict management, strategic management, human resource management, financial management and many more, are available in the ancient Indian literature but they are not being taught to our budding managers.
The point to be noted is that these management skills were not only in use but in common practice in the ancient era in India.
I have also delivered talk to the “College of Defence Management’ on Strategic management in Thirukkural’ for their research project titled 'Attributes of Ancient Indian Culture and warfare techniques and its incorporation in present day strategic thinking and training.'.
I've worked with a number of high profile MBA colleges as an academician helping budding managers of the country become effective managers in the field of their choice. and now have also started teaching online through various online platforms. I have spent the last 15 years in teaching training and research activities.
My educational background is in commerce and business management, I am M.Com., MBA, PhD. I've spoken at the various national and international conferences in institutes like IIM Indore, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Kashipur etc. Senior fellowship with ICSSR on the research topic based on the 'Ancient Jain Management Techniques' is still going on. I've worked with a number of high profile brands and now enjoy the freedom to teach online while traveling the world. I look forward to meeting you in class.
