This course provides an overview of Yoga for Physical Stamina. As a component of total personality development Yoga for Physical Stamina aims at training the participants in both eastern and western perspectives thus improving the physical stamina. This course includes both theory and practice components; the theory modules will give an overview of the both eastern and western perspectives of physical fitness, Component of physical fitness, Structure of muscles, Muscles Physiology, Exercise physiology, Types of exercise for physical stamina and physical fitness, Difference between yoga and exercises, Stress and performance, Yogic concept of physical fitness, different Yogic techniques for physical stamina development, Importance of Meditation for physical stamina and Over view of Research on physical stamina.

The other part of the course will give a detailed explanation and hands on practice sessions of various yoga techniques starting from Breathing Practices, Relaxation Techniques, Loosening Practices, Sukshma Vyayama, Surya Namaskara, Yogasanas practices, Pranayamas, different types of Meditation techniques and Krida Yoga for physical stamina.

Dr H R Nagendra, ME., PhD

Chancellor, S-VYASA, Bengaluru

Dr H R Nagendra holds PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IISc, Bangalore. After receiving his doctorate in 1968, he served as faculty of IISc in Department of Mechanical Engineering. Then, he went to Canada as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1970. From there, he moved to NASA Marshall Space Flight Centre, USA as Post-Doctoral Research Associate in 1971 and moved to Engineering Science Laboratory, Harvard University, USA as a Consultant in 1972. He served as Visiting Staff at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London later. In 1975, he joined Vivekananda Kendra, a service mission as a whole-time worker. Director of Training Centre, Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari. Between 1975 and 1993, he served as the All India Secretary, Yoga Shiksha Vibhag, Vivekanand Kendra, Kanyakumari. He is the founder and President of Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bengaluru.
Currently, He is the Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, a Yoga University in Bangalore. He was also Chairman of Task force of AYUSH, Govt, of India, New Delhi. He has published 30 Research Papers in Engineering and more than 200 research papers on Yoga. He has authored and co-authored 40 books on Yoga. He has received several awards for his life time achievement in the field of yoga including Padma Shri award by Govt. of India in 2016.

Dr Vikas Rawat

Dr. Vikas Rawat has done his Ph.D. on “Yoga for Physical fitness in adolescences” under the guidance of Dr. R Nagarathna at S-VYASA University. He did his Post Graduate Diploma in Yogic Science from Uttranchal Ayurvedic Medical College. Dehradun, Uttrakhand, India, and MSc. (Yoga) from S- VYASA University Bangalore, India. At present, he is working as an Associate Professor in the Division of Yoga and Humanities, in S-VYASA, Bangalore and having 16 years of teaching experience in the field of yoga. He was one of the teaching faculty of Hatha Yoga classes for Masters students of India-China Yoga College Yunnan Minzu University China for two semesters from 2021-22. He involves in guiding a large number of UG, PG students and presently guiding 6 PhD scholars. He had published 12 research papers in national and international journals. He is also Coordinator of National and International Himalaya Yoga Olympiad and Coordinator of Personality development program in S-VYASA University. He is having 5 years’ experience as a yoga therapist. His expertise is in Neurological and Oncology therapeutic applications through yoga. He also underwent special yoga therapy and physiotherapy training on Neuro-rehabilitation at KWA Klink Hospital in Germany in 2013. He had participated in many National and International yoga asana competitions as a Jury member. He was also one of the Jury members of NCERT’s National Yoga Olympiad (2016, 2019, 2022,2023) a National level Yoga asana competition.

Dr Aniruddha Arya

Dr Aniruddha Arya (He) has completed his Bachelor's in Yoga and Naturopathy (BNYS) from S-VYASA University and his master's degree, in Musculoskeletal Sports Science and Health with a merit from Loughborough University in the UK which has been the world's no.1 university for sports related subjects consecutively for 7 years. He has worked with world-leading researchers in the para-sport domain and with the Gold medal-winning Wheelchair rugby team from the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. He has a keen interest in establishing a research base for understanding the benefits of yoga and naturopathic medicine for sports rehabilitation and performance enhancement in athletes. He is currently working as a Senior Research Fellow in Anvesana, an integrative research facility at S-VYASA University.

Course certificate

Grading Policy:

There will be (a) Internal Assessment and (b) Final Exam.

Weightage:

Internal Assessment: This will carry 30% weightage. MCQs for all the Weeks
Final Exam: This will carry 70% weightage. The final exam will have questions from all the weeks.

Passing Marks:

You will be eligible for a certificate only if you score a minimum of 50% in the Internal Assessment and a minimum of 50% in the Final Exam.

Final Examination:

Type of exam: Computer-based proctored exam will be conducted by the National Testing Agency
Exam Center: You will have to appear at the allotted exam centre and take the exam in person. (You can find the final allotted exam centre details in the admit card (hall ticket)).
Admit Card: You can download the Admit card (Hall ticket) around one week before the exam.
QP Pattern: All the questions will be in the format of MCQs.
