This is an inter-disciplinary Refresher Course focusing on leadership and Governance in Indian higher education. 

  • In case you are thinking and looking beyond the benefits of CAS (Career advancement Scheme), 
  • If you think you have it in you to be a leader in the higher education system and to held higher positions in the system. 
  • If you think you deserve to grow up in the system, this course is made for you. 

This course will help you to understand the basics, eligibility and requirements for leadership roles in higher education. This also will help you to understand and improve yourself as an Academic Leader, Administrative leader or Organisational leader. 

This course also introduces you to the different aspects of governance in Indian Higher Education system, which will be essentially helpful for every emerging leader in the system. This will help you to be a better leader and effective administrator along with a good academician. 

Intended Audience:-  Faculty members of any subject or discipline from Senior College, institutions and/or University can join this course. As per the guidelines of MHRD and UGC, participation in this course will be considered as one refresher for the CAS.

Course layout

This is a total 40 hours course, delivered through online videos, power point presentations and activities.  It will go at the rate of 4 hours a week. Reference material for sessions will also be provided online.  Activities/assignments based on the contents covered in the course will be conducted before the end of the program. End of the course examination will be conducted for evaluation and the candidates clearing the examination will be issued certificates. The tentative course layout is as follows:-

Dr. Sanjeev Sonawane began his professional career as Science and Mathematics teacher in 1984 at Secondary School. Joined as Lecturer in 1987 after completing Teacher Education at C. Agashe College Pune . Then he moved to University of Pune in 2005 as Professor of Education in the Department of Education & Extension.

He was officiating Registrar of University of Pune in 2007 and completed term   as   Dean, Faculty of Education during 2001 to 2005 and 2011 to 2015. Member of Management Council during 2003-2005 and 2011 to 2015.

He has Postgraduate degrees in Educational Communication, Distance Education, Physical Education and PhD from University of Mumbai.

He is awarded Linnaeus Palme Teacher Exchange Scholarship of Swedish Government two times (2003 & 2010) participated in teacher exchange programme at School of Education & communication, Jonkoping University, Sweden.

He completed joint research project with Monash University Australia in the area Inclusive Education (2008) and Telemark college University, Norway on Multicultural Education (2014), ongoing International project on Teacher Education with South East Norway University, Norway of 1.8 Cr. 

He completed major research project by ISRO on Rural Communication in 2014, National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) project on Governance & Leadership in Higher Education (2018). 

He delivered invited talk at Dhaka University (Jan. 2015), Colombo University (2014). 
Government of Maharashtra awarded “e-Maharashtra Award 2012” to Teacher Education-ICT Intel project to University of Pune implemented under his leadership. Pune Municipal Corporation awarded Best Teacher award in 2013, Recipient of Helen Keller national award 2016 
He authored seventeen books on Education and Physical Education. Around fifty two research publications at national and international level are to his credit.  Twenty seven doctorates had been awarded under his able supervision.

He has initiated a number of interventions and reforms in curriculum at different levels of educational sciences and participated in the formulation of education policies at state and national level, established new degrees and introduced new courses in the faculty of education.

He established ICT Base Learning and Research Lab for visually impaired at University of Pune.

He is founder member of Asian centre for Inclusive Education, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dr. Sanjeev Sonawane has been actively involved in the research in teacher education and Pre & In service training programmes for teachers.

Course certificate

Participants completing the assignments and clearing the end of the course examination will get course certificate which will be valid for CAS as per UGC notification.
