Refresher Course in Home Science

Home Science is an applied discipline. It contributes to the improvement of quality of living of individuals and families which ultimately results in national development. Interdisciplinary field of Home Science can contribute to the benefit of families and the community at micro and macro level to gear for change and development towards the desired direction. Teachers have an important role to play here. They have to work the development of students as well as their own professional development. They have to keep updated knowledge regarding not only of what is going on in their area of specialization but also the other five major specializations in Home Science too. Besides this, they have to develop strategies for future proofing of the subject of Home Science. The specific learning outcomes to be delivered through this course are as follows


 To encourage Professional Development of Home Science Teachers at different levels.

 To develop an understanding of the Paradigm Shift in Home Science

To deliberate on the aspects of teaching, learning and curriculum planning

To link the fields of Home Science to the Sustainable Development Goals

To have an understanding about the research methodology employed in the field of Home Science

 To deliberate on the aspects of Writing for grants and Publishing in the field of Home Science

 To develop an appreciation for use of ICT and Communication

 

Scope of the Online Course 

Home Science has the essential components to engage youth in teaching, research and advocacy for healthier families, communities and the nation. Through its five core areas, Home Science seeks to prepare individuals for their professional and personal life by developing their resources and capabilities. It also seeks to develop in them leadership skills, scientific approach to problem solving and sensitivity to local, national and global issues by giving them practical, on hand grass root level experiences. It intends to stimulate their critical thinking by generating debates about policies at local, national and international levels. It also strives to develop in them the capabilities of taking the knowledge developed in the research institutions to the people and the knowledge generated from the people back to labs for further testing. This course also intends to develop in the individuals an attitude to evaluate and value the folk and indigenous culture. To meet the needs and requirement of the society and in order to enhance the quality of research, interdisciplinary growth of the discipline of Home Science must continue. Future planned strategies should include keeping the faculty motivated and refreshed.
