Online Refresher Course In Pharmacy for Higher Education

This online course has been designed and developed by National Resource Centre (NRC) of Pharmacy at the Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, under Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching (ARPIT) - 2019 scheme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The NRC of Pharmacy is guided by Academic Council consisting of eminent Pharmacy Professionals belonging to the Teaching Institution, Pharmaceutical Industry and R&D Labs. 

This is a free of cost, online Refresher Course for Pharmacy Teachers of University, Institutes and Colleges offering Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate courses in Pharmacy education. This course is equivalent to face-to-face Refresher Course in Pharmacy as required under Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) of AICTE. 

This course has been designed to provide insight into a variety of interesting and meaningful topics which would be useful for all the Pharmacy teachers irrespective of their specializations. The Title of the Course is ‘ADVANCES IN DRUG DISCOVERY AND FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT’. 

The course is divided into six modules according to advance learning with respect to Drug Discovery and Formulation Development. The first module is RATIONAL DRUG DESIGN which will cover the latest drug discovery and development procedures. The second module is MODERN TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGIES USED FOR DRUG DISCOVERY which will focus on the latest developments in advanced analytical techniques. The third module will highlight on FORMULATION DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT, AND NOVEL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS: CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS which will focus on the mechanisms involved in the drug delivery, emulsion and multiple emulsion technology, osmo-regulatory system of drug delivery and concepts of nanomedicines. In the fourth module, we will talk about PRE-CLINICAL AND CLINICAL EVALUATIONS, where the science behind the bioavailability and bioequivalence, PK-PD, clinical trials and therapeutic drug monitoring will be covered. In the fifth module, we will discuss about the DRUG REGULATORY ASPECTS OF INDIAN AND US GOVERNMENTS with respect to drug discovery, approvals and current market scenario. In the sixth module, we will explain the PEDAGOGIES IN PHARMACY EDUCATION with respect to modern science, art and professional teachings. The course consists of highly multimedia enriched videos along with text, reading material, references and online Quizzes.

Instructor bio

Prof. Sushant Kumar Shrivastava

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi.
SK Shrivastava is a HAG Grade Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, India. He is a committed research scientist and pharmacy educationist and has been actively involved in uplifting the standards of pharmacy education and profession through his dedicated efforts, and passion. He completed his master degree (M. Pharm) in 1993 from Dr. H.S. Gour University, Sagar, India and Ph.D. degree in 2000 from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Department of Pharmacy, SGSITS, Indore, India. He had 25 years of experience in teaching and research and guided 8 doctoral fellows and 23 postgraduate students who are well settled. Currently, 8 doctoral fellows and four postgraduate students are pursuing research work under his guidance and supervision. He is actively engaged in bilateral research agreement for Indo-US and NIH grants with Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans, USA to design novel molecules in the field of cancer research. He has published around 85 papers in various International and National peer-reviewed journals. His primary research interests are centered on designing and development of novel molecules for the treatment of inflammation, Alzheimer’s disease, and cancer. He has experience and exposure to work with the University as well as IIT system. He served the institute in various capacity, i.e. Member of Rajbhasha Hindi Committee, Administrative warden of the several hostels, Member of the advisory committee, Training and Placement Cell at Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University). Apart from these, he is actively involved in several committees of national repute, i.e. GPAT, UGC, AICTE, and PCI. He is actively involved in the design and development of new curricular and syllabus in the capacity of Member, Board of Studies for various universities i.e. Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (Bhopal), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (Indore), Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Central University (Lucknow), Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya (Jabalpur), and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (Lucknow). His membership for various social and civil bodies indicates his zeal to develop in every sphere of life.
