Proficiency Course in Spanish

To equip learners with sufficient linguistic competence to be able to   respond appropriately in daily life situations and to express their needs in basic Spanish and provide them with Functional Grammar and Language Use.

The learners will be equipped with basic oral and listening comprehension skills and conversation practice on known topics, listening to simple audio texts, understanding basic information and instructions. They learn to respond to basic questions on personal information about name, age, profession, nationality, and address.

To equip learners with necessary reading and writing skills to form simple sentences about personal information. They would also learn to formulate questions to know the same about the other person. 

Rationale for developing this Course

Learning a foreign language widens horizons, especially Spanish, since it is most widely spoken language in the world. It is an excellent opportunity to learn it thorugh MOOC since there are very few universities/institutes offering this Language. It is a linguistic skill which will help in securing jobs. The course is being developed keeping in view the demands of the market and the need for more Spanish Language resources. 


The objectives of the course are 

Develop the basic knowledge of Spanish to handle simple real life situations.
Ask and respond to simple questions
Learn important expressions in Spanish
Learn to conjugate Verbs and make simple conversations
Talk about one self and one’s family

Dr. T. Srivani

The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad
Dr. T. Srivani is currently the Head of the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies at the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. She has over two decades of experience in teaching Spanish at various levels: beginners, intermediate, advanced, post graduate and researchers. She is a Gold Medalist in M.A Lingusitics from Osmania University and later has done her M.A in Hispanic Studies from the University of Delhi. She has done her doctoral research in the area of Comparitive Literature and Translation Studies

She has presented papers at several National and International Conferences
Special Honours:
She has received Spanish Government Scholarship to study and to do research in Spain

Course certificate

30 percent marks for in course Assessments and 70 Percent marks for end term proctored exam. Learner should acquire atleast 40 percent marks in the internal assessment and end term exam. If the learner pass the exams and assessments he/she will receive the certificate.
