Growth and development being an integral component of health and wellbeing of the child, it is essential that one seeks out for adequate information regarding the same and put the acquired knowledge into action to reap tangible benefits . The term growth refers to increase in physical size of the body and development to increase in skills and function. Growth and development are considered together because the child grows and develops simultaneously. This course focuses on human growth and development over the lifespan, as well as careers that help people deal with various physical, intellectual, and socioemotional issues, such as physicians, nurses, nutritionists, counselors, social worker, home science.

This course is important because it gives the student a background in human growth and development from before birth, through childhood, into adulthood, and through death and grief. It gives the student perspective and highlights where people in the caring professions are most needed. Students who take this course will come away with a broad understanding of all the careers that help people from birth to death. They will understand how people in the helping professions interact with each other and how continued growth in this sector.

Dr. K. Sambath Rani, Asst. Prof. (SG), Department of Special Education, School of Education, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore. I have 26 years of service in the field of Special Education. My thrust for research is quenched by undertaking UGC Major Research Project, Minor Project, DST Project and ICSSR–IMPRESS Project. I had cleared UGC NET Exam in Education. Specialized in Two Major areas (Visual Impairment and Mental Retardation). My commitment in the field is reflected by means of conducting various programmes to Special Educators, Inclusive Teachers, Village Health Nurses Anganwadi teachers and other paraprofessionals. I had authored Six Books and written Course Material in Special Education to Tamil Nadu Open University. My expertise is shared in Seminars and Conferences With regard to teaching learning in the class I give a lot of examples (case studies) and relate realistic experiences related to the content and make the class interesting to sustain the attention of the students.
