This course deals with an introduction to Philosophical and Sociological perspectives on basic assumptions about human nature, knowledge and learning.The course also explains briefly about the distinction between body of knowledge and child’s construction of knowledge.  It also highlights on the concept of the child as a learner, the teacher, the role of teacher with respect to parents, curriculum, and society.

Dr.S.Prakash is working as Principal at Thiagarajar College of Preceptors (Aided),Madurai. He served as a Principal, Assistant Professor of Education & Physical Science in TVS Teacher Training Academy, Madurai for four years , as Assistant Professor of Physical Science at Peniel Rural College of Education, Natham, Dindigul district for six years.He has obtained Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at American college, Madurai and Master’s degree in Chemistry at Madura college, Madurai. He completed his B.Ed., M.Ed.,M.Phil. degrees in Education from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and his Doctorate degree in Education from M.S University,Tirunelveli. He has 13 years of teaching experience in Colleges of Education.He has published eleven books, edited 19 chapters in 16 books and published 48 research articles in both National and International Journals. He has participated in several International, National, State level Seminars and presented 20 papers. He is an approved senior member of International Society for Research and Devolopment (ISRD), London. He has prepared 22 e-content materials and served as Course Coordinator for three courses on SWAYAM portal offered by MHRD, Government of India.  He has acted as resource person, Education in TET seminars conducted by Dinamalar daily all over Tamilnadu. He has visited countries like Singapore & Srilanka and studied their higher educational systems. His areas of interest are Science Education, Guidance & Counselling and Educational Psychology.
