This course highlights the main features and challenges of India's economic development since independence, using various analytical tools and frameworks. It covers topics such as growth, structural change, savings, investment, population, human development, poverty, inequality, unemployment and international comparison. The course aims to provide a comprehensive and critical understanding of India's economic trajectory and policy debates in a changing global context.  

This is a 55-module course with 4 different units covering the different issues of Indian economy after independent.

The 55 modules of this course will be delivered over a period of 15 weeks roughly covering the working days of a semester. This course is designed by experts in the field of Indian Economy and delivered by eminent Economists and Professors from reputed Universities and Colleges.

Each module has the following four quadrants:

·         A video of the lecture of roughly 25 minutes duration delivered by the faculty.
·         An in depth write up of the same topic [Academic Script],
·         References for further study.
·         MCQs for self -assessment, exploratory exercises for discussion in blogs and assignments for evaluation by faculty.

Students are also provided with FAQ, Glossary, Assignments to master the subject. In order to assimilate the topic in a perfect manner, the student is expected to devote two hours and will adhere to the submission deadline of the assignment provided by the faculty.

Thus like all other MOOCs, this particular MOOC is a self-learning module and the students are expected to devote 10 hours approximately per week, which will include thorough understanding of the module, participation in the discussion with the subject expert and also going through the list of papers and other references.

Prof. Pinaki Das

Vidyasagar University, Midnapore
Pinaki Das is a Professor, Department of Economics, Vidyasagar University. He obtained M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Economics and awarded with the Gold Medal for the first position in M.Sc. in Economics. He has 15 years of teaching experience at UG and PG levels. He acted as the Project Director of Major Research Projects funded by DST, UGC and ICSSR. He has presented his papers in more than 80 national and international Seminars and Conferences and got over 60 research papers published in internationally reputed journals. He has guided 14 Research Scholars and published 6 books. He has expertise in econometric analysis with STATA and Eviews. His thrust areas of research include food security, multidimensional poverty, social protection, lobour economics, women empowerment, unorganised sector

Course certificate

30 Marks will be allocated for Internal Assessment and 70 Marks will be allocated for end term proctored examination
Securing 40% in both separately is mandatory to pass the course and get Credit Certificate.
