About the Course: Basic Psychological Processes

  • This course addresses the needs of beginners in psychology.
  • It also meets the needs of students of social sciences like education, nursing, social work, physiotherapy, management, law, and other courses that require a basic grounding in psychology.
  • The topics covered are introduction, biological bases of behavior, sensory and perceptual processes, learning, memory and forgetting, motivation, emotion, thinking and reasoning, states of consciousness, personality, and intelligence.
  • It contains review materials, assignments, case studies, practice questions to help you understand and remember the concepts
  • It has a continuity of existing classic theories and studies, which forms the basis



Basic Psychological Processes course is of 12 weeks duration with 4 credits and possess 49 modules. The students will be exposed to e-content, e-tutorials, and discussion forum where they can interact with the principle investigator or the teaching assistant as per the MOOC’s guidelines. The course will include assessments as well as evaluations. The assessments will be in the form of MCQs, assignments, and interaction on discussion forum. Course certificates will be provided based on 30 percent for in-course Assessments and 70 percent for end-term proctored exam.

Dr. N.D.S. Naga Seema

English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad (Host university)

Dr. Seema, Ph.D. (Psychology), is currently an Associate Professor at the Centre for Health Psychology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad, India. She has been involved in teaching students in undergraduate and postgraduate psychology programs for a substantial period of time. She is a recipient of the Young Scientist Award 2010 instituted by the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology, one of the oldest professional bodies in India that is dedicated to the field of Psychology. She imparts professional skill training to young scholars at undergraduate and Postgraduate levels on not only psychological assessment and evaluation in the State-of-the-art Psychology Laboratories but also psychological intervention in hospital and community settings. She has undergone several professional training programs and workshops on research methodology, cognitive drill therapy, hypnotherapy, psychotherapeutic approaches to chronic illnesses, environmental sciences, leadership and organization development, and neurofeedback orientation.



Research:

  • Her research activities are focussed primarily on Health Psychology and specifically on Community Health Psychology, HealthCommunication, Biopsychosocial Health of Women, and Yoga. Her primary area of teaching includes Developmental Psychology, CounsellingPsychology, Health Communication, and Social Psychology. Dr. Seema has been involved in content development and visual aids in e-learningfor University Grants Commission- Consortium for Education Communication (UGC-CEC). She has also launched programme under MOOCS—a flagship programme of Government of India. She has to her credit several national and international publications.

30 Marks will be allocated for Internal Assessment and 70 Marks will be allocated for end term proctored examination.
