‘Sociology’ is a science of society that analyze various social phenomena scientifically. While talking about social movements, it is a fact of society. Movement is a global phenomenon. In this regard, it is mandatory to analyze and studying the social movements occurred in society. This course is explaining causes and consequences of social movements in contemporary era. This course also discuss about the theoretical framework of social movements towards the students of all social sciences. Moreover, this course explains the movement as a crucial factor of social change. A course 'Sociology of Social Movement' is designed for the students of Sociology, Political Science, History, Social Work, and literature.

Major objectives of this course are:
 1. To Introduce students about the concepts and theories of Social Movements.
 2. To sensitize students about the various Indian social movements.
 3. To make understand the role of social movements in social change.
 4. To enable students to look at the social movement through scientifical and comparative perspective. and in a theoretical framework.

 This course cover most of the topics regarding social Movements like concepts and theories of social movements, Typologies of social movements, Ideologies – leadership – Mobilization and movements like Reform Movements, Revivalist Movements, Women’s movements, Working Class Movements, Tribal Movements, Dalit Movements, Peasant Movements Etc.

Rushiraj Upadhyay is an Assistant Professor at Department of Sociology, Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University, Junagadh. Dr. Rushiraj Upadhyay has wide – ranging interest in research and public policies including Developmental Studies, Social Ecology, Digitalization, Social Movements, Political Sociology, and Socio – Political Issues. He has contributed articles and research papers in various journals, magazines, newspapers and edited books. He has deep interest in bringing social issues, political turmoil, development facts and environmental discourse before the people and government. His writings show his interest in planning and policy matters. He was conferred with the R. K. Mukherjee Young Social Scientist Award by ISSA in the year 2014. 

His Career objective is to play a decisive role in the societal development by active involvement in research, academia and social work, and contribute to the better changes in society as well as human living standard. His current passion is to work as a facilitator of education and creating opportunities to build, enhance and sustain high levels of professional conduct and excellence in performance leading towards the evolution of a creative mind-frame.

His academic credentials include Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate in Sociology.
