The MOOC on Peace and Conflict Resolution is for learners at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Prospective learners of this course are throughout India and across the globe. The course shall provide knowledge of the basic concepts of Peace, Conflict, wars and methods of conflict resolutions adopted by various nation-states and non-state actors throughout the world. Learners will engage in critical dialogue on questions such as how we identify actors in peace and in conflict, and how we can work against differing forms of violence and reconstitute just and participatory social and political order in the wake of violence. The course is designed to familiarize students with the historical background of various peace movements, to analyse principles used to resolve conflict, and to provide a view of how peace and conflict resolution are being pursued today. The MOOCs shall be divided into V units covering all the aspects of Peace, Conflict and Methods of Resolution. This MOOCs shall be inclusive of the below-mentioned broader themes:

•           Theoretical Perspectives on Peace and Conflict

•           Nature and Forms of Conflict- Intra-state, Inter-state and Global

•           Theories of War: Realism, Pacifism, Just War theory

•           Conflicts over Resources 

•           Human Rights and Conflict

•           Gender based violence in Conflict

•           Role of International Organisations and Civil Society in Human Security 

•           Peace Transformation and Conflict Resolution

Instructor bio

Dr. Khalid Wasim Hassan

Central University of Kashmir

Dr. Khalid Wasim Hassan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Governance, which is housed in the School of Social Sciences of the Central University of Kashmir, India. He has also taught at the P.G Department of Political Science of St. Josephs College, Bangalore (2012-13) and School of Undergraduate Studies of Ambedkar University Delhi. His research focuses on political violence, gender & public spaces and intersectionality in South Asia. Dr Hassan visited South Asian Institute, SOAS on Charles Wallace Fellowship in 2017 and Sidney Sussex College of the University of Cambridge in 2018 on visiting fellowship respectively. He teaches the course on Political Theory, Peace and Conflict Studies and South Asian Politics at postgraduate level. Dr Hassan developed 12 weeks MOOC on Understanding South Asia in India which received overwhelming response from the students/learners.

Course certificate

30 Marks will be allocated for Internal Assessment and 70 Marks will be allocated for end term proctored examination Securing 40% in both separately is mandatory to pass the course and get Credit Certificate.
