This course ‘Chemical Energetics, Equilibria and Functional Group Organic Chemistry-I’ will cater to 2nd semester of CBCS based curricula of B.Sc. Chemistry and B.Sc. Physical Science (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) under the paper ‘Chemistry-DSC 2B: Chemical Energetics, Equilibria and Functional Group Organic Chemistry-I’. It will also cater to Generic Elective paper namely ‘Chemical Energetics, Equilibria and Functional Organic Chemistry-I’ of B.Sc. Honours with Chemistry CBCS syllabus.

Thus the course will cover following topics: 

1. Chemical Energetics,

2. Chemical Equilibrium,

3. Ionic Equilibria,

4. Aromatic hydrocarbons

5. Alkyl and Aryl Halides

6. Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers

7. Aldehydes and Ketones

These topics will be covered in 13 weeks with intermediate assignments and will end with the final examination which will take an extra week.

Instructor bio

Dr. A. A. Ajmeri

The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara

Dr. A. A. Ajmeri (Associate Professor) pursued M.Sc., Ph.D as well as B.Ed qualifications from the MSU, Vadodara. He has also qualified NET (1997) and GATE (1999) both at first attempt. He served as a Higher Secondary Teacher of Chemistry in an esteemed CBSE Institution Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s School, Vadodara for a period of one Semester in 1998, then he was appointed as a Lecturer in Chemistry at The M S University of Baroda in 1999. Since then he has been constantly rendering his service for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students in the same institute. He was awarded C. C. Shroff Research Scholarship in 1998. He has many research publications to his credit in international journals. His area of research is Synthetic Organic Chemistry and he is working on building up seven membered β-lactam and sydnone ring on biological active compounds. His Scopus ID is 35386307100 and his email ID is aaajmeri@rediffmail.com. He has authored four books, ‘Stars of Chemistry’, ‘Meteors of Chemistry and two Volumes of the book titled ‘Diamonds of Chemistry’ at national level. He has also contributed 6 chapters each in two international books titled 'CHEMISTRY: The Molecular Nature of the Matters' by Jesperson, 8th edition and 'Foundations of College Chemistry' by Heins, 16th edition from Wiley Publications.
