The course intends to develop learners' understanding of studying the relationship between institutional decisions, administrative processes, and implementing environmental policies in India and globally using examples/case studies drawn from natural resources, energy, and pollution control programs. 

During the course, Learners will:
  • acquire a conceptual understanding of a healthy environment, biodiversity, components of an ecosystem, waste management strategies, and approaches for managing natural resources; 
  • recognize various environment protection policies, their evaluation procedures, impact assessment techniques and predictions; 
  • understand the environmental administration structure, functions, and role of the Central Pollution Control Board, the State Pollution Control Board and the National Green Tribunal in detail; 
  • introduced with emerging global environmental issues such as climate change, water contamination, pollution, and control strategies; 
  • understand the key recommendations of important international conferences, summits, and protocols on the environment; 
  • explore practical applications of green technologies and the role of the United Nations Environment Program in achieving sustainable development goals to protect the environment; and 
  • recognize the importance of awareness of environmental policy, administrative implementation procedures to achieve sustainable development goals and the Indian obligations as per the constitutional provisions and sectoral laws. 
Moreover, the learners could also take advantage of this course in qualifying for various relevant competitive examinations at national (UPSC) and state levels (SPSC).

Dr. Tejpal Dhewa

Associate Professor, SIAS, Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh, Haryana
Dr. Tejpal Dhewa is a highly accomplished faculty member in the School of Interdisciplinary and Applied Science (SIAS) at the Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh. He has a diverse background in industry, administration, teaching, and research. A recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Best Teacher Award (2019-20) and Young Scientist Award (2015), he has made significant contributions to food safety, nutrition, and academic learning.

Dr. Dhewa plays a key role in SWAYAM-MOOCs, FoSTaC under FSSAI, and I-STEM at his university. His highly successful MOOC on Food Microbiology and Food Safety has attracted over 37,000 learners and has been translated into multiple Indian languages. His MOOC on Environment Policy and Administration - Module' Environmental Pollution and Human Health' was recently recognised as the Best MOOC at the 26th CEC-UGC Educational Film Festival (Dr. Neha Singh, Subject Matter Expert as well as Presenter of the Module, and Dr. Tejinder Singh has directed/produced this program).

With over 5000 citations and an h-index of 25, Dr. Dhewa has a prolific research profile, focusing on food microbiology, safety, and environmental issues. He has collaborated internationally, conducted courses with institutions like Rutgers and Emory University, and played a vital role in leadership training programs. His projects have received funding from key scientific bodies, including SERB-DST, HSCSIT, CEC-UGC, and MoE.

Through his research, teaching, and policy efforts, Dr. Dhewa continues to advance food safety and academic excellence, making a lasting impact in his field.

Course certificate

  • Internal Assessment- Weekly assessments released in the course shall be considered for Internal Marks and will carry 30 percent for the Overall Result. Out of all weekly assignments, the best/top five scores will be considered for the final Internal Assessment marks.
  • End-term Assessment - The final exam shall be conducted by NTA and will carry 70 percent for the overall Result.
  • All students who obtain 40% marks in the internal assessment and 40% marks in the end-term proctored exam separately will be eligible for the SWAYAM Credit Certificate.
