  • By 2050, nearly 7 of 10 people in the world will live in cities. With more than 80% of global GDP generated in cities, urbanization can contribute to sustainable growth if managed well by increasing productivity, allowing innovation and new ideas to emerge.
  • However, the pace and scale of urbanization brings challenges, including addressing accelerated demand for different services like affordable housing, well-connected transport systems, and other infrastructure, basic services, as well as employment, particularly for urban poor who live in informal settlements for livelihood opportunities.
  • The present course presents the learner with   different modules like emergence, scope, basic concepts in Urban Sociology, urbanization, theories in Urban Sociology, urban problems, urban planning, urban governance and urban development policies.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

·             30 marks will be allocated for internal assessment.

·             70 marks will be allocated for end term proctored examination.

·             Attempting a minimum of 5 assessments is mandatory.

·             Securing 40% in both separately is mandatory to pass the course and get a credit certificate.

Ensure a consistent schedule for all live sessions. According to CEC, it's mandatory.
