Social work research aims to provide students with essential and advanced information required for systematic social science research, emphasizing social work practice. It amalgamates the ethical principles and distinct standards of the social work profession with the theories, procedures, and tools of social scientific research.
This
11-week course begins with an analysis of the origins of research and the
differences between social science and social work research.
Students will learn quantitative and qualitative methodology, as well as
blended and integrated methods. The course encompasses essential research
designs, such as single-subject, action, evaluation, and diverse sampling
methodologies. Data gathering instruments, including surveys, interviews, and
observations, are emphasized alongside SPSS and other analytical approaches.
Students will gradually apply topics like conceptualization, measurement,
hypothesis formulation, and statistical techniques. Practical exercises
will link theory to real-world application, while short-answer tests and
projects will evaluate comprehension of essential topics.
The course culminates with comprehensive guidance on the creation of official
research reports, ensuring that students are equipped to make a substantial
impact in the domain of evidence-based social work.
