This Massive Open Online course on European Classical literature is a five credit course and has been designed for undergraduate students of English honours. This course offers a comprehensive exploration of European Classical literature that has shaped western literary canon. In this course we shall discuss and analyse the influential works from the classical period. Objectives of the course:  To enable the learners to acquaint themselves with the historical backdrop of the European classical literature including the literary cultures in Augustan Rome.  To enable the learners to develop a critical understanding of epic poetry, classical tragedy, classical comedy and satire.  To enable the learners to trace the development of classical literature as well as classical literary criticism in order to get a more nuanced understanding of the prescribed texts. 1.End-Term Examination: o Weightage: 70% of the final result o Minimum Passing Criteria: 40% 2. Internal Assessment: o Weightage: 30% of the final result o Minimum Passing Criteria: 40% Calculation of IA Marks: o Out of all graded weekly assessments/assignments, the top 50% of assignments shall be considered for the calculation of the final Internal Assessment marks. All students who obtain 40% marks in the internal assessment and 40% marks in the end-term proctored exam separately will be eligible for the SWAYAM Credit Certificate.
