Sociological Thinkers  study is universal importance and its gaining lot of prominence in the present day world. Sociological studies is the need of the hour to understand the societal functioning and the challenges which are faced by the community and overcome it through the ideas and theories put forward by the sociological thinkers. It provides the knowledge of  better understanding of social differences, social behaviour, reasoning  skills in everyday life .

Course Objectives:

1. Develop Sociological Imagination: Students will cultivate their sociological imagination, allowing them to analyze and interpret their own life experiences within a broader social context.
2. Apply Sociological Theory to Everyday Life: Students will learn to apply various sociological theories to real-world situations, understanding how these theories can explain and influence everyday experiences.
3. Critical Thinking in Sociological Contexts: Students will enhance their critical thinking skills by evaluating social situations and issues through a theoretical lens, fostering a deeper understanding of societal dynamics.
4. Understand the Relevance of Sociological Theories: Students will recognize the importance and relevance of sociological theories in understanding and addressing contemporary social issues.
5. Integrate Theory and Practice: Students will demonstrate the ability to integrate sociological theories with practical experiences, showing how theory can be used as a tool for social analysis and change.

Instructor bio

Dr. Noor Mubasheer C.A.

University of Mysore
Dr. Noor Mubasheer C.A. is an Associate Professor and Head of PG Studies and Research in Social Work. With qualifications including MSW, PGDHRM, NET, and a PhD, she has 19 years of teaching experience, comprising 5 years at the undergraduate level and 14 years at the postgraduate level. Dr. Noor has 15 years of research experience and has completed a UGC-funded Minor Research Project. She has published 25 research papers, authored 2 books, and edited 2 more. Her academic contributions include 14 paper presentations, participation in 32 conferences/seminars, 11 workshops, and 6 faculty development programs. Additionally, she has organized 9 conferences and workshops. As a resource person, Dr. Noor has contributed to the Karnataka Police Academy and Prison Staff Training Institute. 

Course certificate

1. End-Term Examination:
o    Weightage: 70% of the final result
o    Minimum Passing Criteria: 40%

2. Internal Assessment:
o    Weightage: 30% of the final result
o    Minimum Passing Criteria: 40%

3. Calculation of IA Marks:
o    Out of all graded weekly assessments/assignments, the top 50% (equal-weighted) shall be considered for calculation of the final Internal Assessment marks.
All students who obtain 40% marks in the internal assessment and 40% marks in the end-term proctored exam separately will be eligible for the SWAYAM Credit Certificate.
