The aim of this course is to introduce the learner to German language. After doing this course, the learner is expected to know about the basic aspects of German language, German speaking countries, and also construct and use simple sentences using appropriate words and phrases for communicative purposes. This is an online course involving interaction with subject experts, self learning and self assessment, which offers the learners the flexibility to learn and revise the modules at their own pace. Also, the learners can determine their progress through this course by using the additional resources provided in each module.

Dr Nishant K. Narayanan is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Germanic Studies, School of European Languages, English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. His research areas are German Studies in India, Teaching of German as a Foreign Language, Literature and Translation.

Course certificate

1. End-Term Examination:

Weightage: 70% of the final result
Minimum Passing Criteria: 40%

2. Internal Assessment (IA):

Weightage: 30% of the final result
Minimum Passing Criteria: 40%

Calculation of IA Marks:

Out of all graded weekly assessments/assignments, the top 50% of assignments shall be considered for the calculation of the final Internal Assessment marks.

All students who obtain 40% marks in the internal assessment and 40% marks in the end-term proctored exam separately will be eligible for the SWAYAM Credit Certificate.
