E-commerce can also be referred to as electronic or internet commerce whereby business transactions are done over the internet and may include such activities as online auctions, internet banking, payment gateways and ticketing services. With the future of the overall buying trends showing an estimated shift to e-commerce buying, it is very important to have skilled employees to handle this area by 2040.

This course aims at giving the students an fundamental understanding of basic e-commerce concepts as applied in business environment. It covers essential aspects, from setting up online transactions and implementing business practices to using digital marketing for profitable operations. Key topics include e-commerce automation, which streamlines tasks and processes to meet business needs efficiently, making online business simpler for users.

This course is perfect for anyone aspiring to have a business online, or anyone interested in e-business, e-commerce or even e-businesses. The course can also be relevant to anyone with a basic knowledge of computers, who wish to deepen their knowledge of business-related technology. In addition to covering fundamental e-commerce principles, this course provides hands-on experience in designing e-commerce websites, integrating secure payment systems, and implementing digital marketing strategies—all without the need for prior coding knowledge. Dr. Anita Walia is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. guide at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), with 20 years of experience in teaching and research. She specializes in IT and Human Resource Management and engages in interdisciplinary research across AI, IoT, cloud computing, e-commerce, and MOOCs. Dr. Walia has delivered sessions on Industry 4.0, AI, case study writing, MOOCs, ICT, and competency mapping in over 100 workshops and faculty development programs (FDPs) sponsored by UGC and AICTE. As a consultant for the Skill Development Mission, she has contributed to upskilling engineers and IT professionals across India. Dr. Walia has attended and presented papers at several national and international conferences, including at IIMs, IITs, and events in the UK, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. She has published articles in Scopus-indexed journals and contributes to education communities through her blog.
