This course introduces students to the fundamental essentials of
research methodology and statistics designed specifically for beginners in
research in management and social sciences. It emphasizes the understanding and
application of statistical tools and research techniques necessary for
conducting scientific investigations across disciplines. It also provides the
knowledge on use of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) including
data entry and analysis. The course guides students through the research
process—from identifying a problem to designing studies, collecting and
analysing data, and interpreting results. By integrating conceptual
understanding with practical skills, students will gain confidence in
critically assessing research and conducting their own studies ethically and
effectively.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students will benefit by gaining
the foundational skills needed for research projects, dissertations, and
competitive academic assessments. For PhD research scholars, the course

Dr. Roshna Thomas is a faculty at the School of Business and
Management, Christ University, Bangalore. She earned her Ph.D.in Management
from Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad. She specializes in teaching
subjects of Finance, Business Laws, Income tax, Statistics and Research
methodology. She has guided more than hundreds of students over the years with
their dissertation thesis supervising them with her knowledge on research
methodology. Apart from being a regular faculty she is also a criteria head for
NAAC Accreditation under IQAC at her department. Her publications include
papers published with eminent international publishers and Scopus indexed
journals. She has more than eleven years of teaching experience at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Enrolling and learning from the course is free. However, if you wish to obtain a certificate, you must register and take the proctored exam in person at one of the designated exam centres. The registration URL will be announced when the registration form is open. To obtain the certification, you need to fill out the online registration form and pay the exam fee of Rs.750/-. Grading Components:
Internal Assignment Score: This contributes 25% to the final grade. It is calculated based on the average of the best 3 out of 6 assignments submitted during the course.
Proctored Final Exam Score: This contributes 75% to the final grade and is based on the proctored final exam, which is scored out of 100.
Overall Course Score: The overall course score is the weighted sum of the internal assignment score and the proctored final exam score.
