ABOUT THE COURSE:
This course seeks to familiarize the learners with the main discourses in International Relations and to equip them to look at them critically. Starting with the theoretical approaches, the course aims to provide critical understanding of important present-day issues and trends that define the contours of International Relations. It provides a wide-ranging outline of the major political developments. A key objective of the course is to make students aware of the implicit Euro-centrism of International Relations.

Instructor bio

Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg

Aligarh Muslim University
Prof. Asmer Beg’s doctoral work was awarded the 'best dissertation prize' by the American Studies Research Centre,Hyderabad for the year 1996. Presently he is Professor, Department of Political Science, A.M.U., Aligarh. He specializes in Strategic Studies. He also has a keen interest in electoral studies and Muslim Politics in India.His work has been published in journals like The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs, Economic and Political Weekly, Seminar, Humanities and Social Science Review, Studies in Indian Politics, South Asian Studies, Studies in Islam, Foreign Affairs Reports and Indian Journal of Politics etc. He has written one book and edited three volumes. He was a visiting scholar in a Fulbright programme at Southern Illinois University in 1999.He is a fellow of the Salzburg Global Seminars, Austria. Beg is on the editorial board of several international journals and has been a referee to quite a few journals.He is the coordinator of (U.P.-West) for the academic surveys conducted by the Center for the Study of Developing Societies.


Prof. Md. Rahat Hasan

Prof. Rahat Hasan is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh. He did his Ph.D. in Political Science from AMU. The topic of his thesis was 'American Think Tanks and the Formulation of US Foreign Policy since World War II'. Prior to joining AMU, he worked as Assistant Professor in Political Science at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANNU), Hyderabad. He has been engaged in Post-doctoral research in the Academy of International Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi) and Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi. He has also done a one year Lok Sabha Internship conducted by Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST), Lok Sabha Secretariat. His main areas of research interest are Politics and International Relations; Human Security; Major Powers (US and China) and Politics of South and West Asia; Parliamentary Affairs; and Minority Issues in India. He has published a book on 'Foreign Policy and Strategic Issues: Think Tanks in US and South Asia' and contributed number of research papers in edited volume and academic journals including Sage.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: October 25, 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.

Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of AMU and INI.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
