ABOUT THE COURSE:
Having studied the module, individuals will gain the ability to comprehend the concept and scope of library management, articulate the principles and functions of library management, and proficiently execute various operations in Library and Information Centres. Furthermore, participants will develop an understanding of financial management and human resource management concepts. They will also acquire skills in designing library and information systems/MIS. Additionally, individuals will be capable of maintaining library statistics and preparing annual reports, ensuring practical application of the knowledge acquired. This will be helpful to students who will be appearing for NET/SLET/other competitive exams.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: UG and PG.

PREREQUISITES: Graduation in any subject

INDUSTRY SUPPORT: Relevant for Organization and Management of Building, Operations, Services and Human Resource of the Library.

Week 2: HRM Challenges and Models, Job Analysis, Job Design, Job Enlargement, Job Description, Job evaluation and Staff Formula.
Week 3: Recruitment, Motivation and theories, Leadership concepts and Theories.
Week 4: Training and Development, Performance Appraisal, Organizational Structure: Centralized and Decentralized, Concept of Knowledge Management.
Week 5: Collection Development, Book selection tools, Acquisition section, Accession Register, Introduction of Technical Section.
Week 6: Technical Section: Classification and Cataloguing procedure, OPAC, Loan Procedures, etc.
Week 7: Circulation Section: Different systems for issuing library materials and maintaining registers. Understanding the Browne and Newark System for library transactions. Machine Charging Systems, Mechanical charger.
Week 8: Circulation Section II: Photographic system, Audio system, Barcode, RFID, Periodical Section: Organization and Management of periodicals in libraries, Kardex System, Bottom Card, Top Card, Maintenance Section.
Week 9:  Library Binding, Stock Verification and Weeding out, Budgeting, Budgetary Methods and Techniques.
Week 10: Library Statistics and its type, Annual Report, System Analysis and Design (SAD).
Week 11: Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Project Management, SWOT analysis, PEST analysis, PERT/CPM, Concept of Quality.
Week 12: Concept of TQM and TQM Gurus, Change Management, Principles and Models of Change Management.

Instructor bio

Prof. M. Masoom Raza

Aligarh Muslim University
Prof. M. Masoom Raza is a Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at Aligarh Muslim University. He has completed his M.Sc (Hons), ML&I.Sc, and Ph.D from Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. Raza has been engaged in teaching and research for over two decades, and he has earlier served as the Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, for about three years, and as the Vice President of ILA for the Eastern Region from 2013 to 2016. He has published two jointly authored and two edited books and more than 70 research papers in journals of national and international repute. He has completed five UGC/ICSSR major research projects and has been a member of various committees and boards of India.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 25 October 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of AMU and INI.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
