ABOUT THE COURSE:
Investment management is a crucial finance function for both corporations and individuals. Investor managers encounter scenarios that necessitate a solid grasp of quantitative tools alongside qualitative assessments before making decisions. The Investment Management Course is designed to equip participants with a thorough understanding of investment management principles and practices. The course is part of the different UG and PG programmes in Commerce and Management. This course offers a comprehensive overview of investment management, emphasizing the practical application of finance theory to the challenges faced by investors. Participants will explore various assets suitable for constructing an investment portfolio, including their valuation methods and performance measurement techniques. By the end of the course, students are expected to achieve several competencies.

Week 2: Securities Market in India: Market Structure, Trading Mechanics, Stock Indices, Regulation of Market, Investment Avenues, and their characteristics: Security and Non-Security Forms of Investment.

Week 3: Analyzing Investment Return and Risk: Different Concepts of Return and their calculations. Risk: Causes, Types, classification of investors calculation of risk of Risk. strategies to mitigate different types of risks.

Week 4: Incorporating Time Value of Money in Investment Decision: Techniques of Time Value of Money, Simple and Compound Interest, Compounding Frequency, Continuous Compounding, Compounding and Discounting, Practical Application of Compounding and Discounting, Types of Annuities, Present Value and Future Value Factors,

Week 5: Valuation of variable Income Securities: Equity shares

Week 6: Valuation of Fixed Income Securities: Bonds, debentures, preference shares, and convertible securities

Week 7: Approaches to Investment Analysis I: Fundamental Analysis (Economy/Industry and Company)

Week 8: Approaches to Investment Analysis II: Technical Analysis: Various prices and volume indicators, indices and moving averages; Interpretation of various types of trends and indices.

Week 9: Portfolio Management Analysis: Meaning, Principles, Process, Portfolio Analysis: Markowitz: Portfolio Return, Portfolio Risk and Portfolio Selection using mean variance approach, Capital market theory and CAMP.

Week 10: Investing through Mutual Funds: Features, Advantages, disadvantages, Different Mutual Funds Schemes, Latest Development, Performance Evaluation of Mutual Funds.

Week 11: Introduction to Derivatives: Concepts and Classifications, Participants in derivatives markets, financial derivatives market in India, Valuation of Futures (Forwards) and Options.

Week 12: Investment Risk Hedging Strategies using Derivatives Instruments: Futures and Options.

Prof. Mohd. Shamim Ansari

Aligarh Muslim University
Prof. Mohd. Shamim Ansari, is Professor in the Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), UP, India. He has over 22 years of experience in teaching and research in the area of banking and finance. Dr. Ansari has to his credit over 30 research papers. He has also presented over two dozen papers in national and international conferences and seminars in different parts of the country. Dr. Ansari has also successfully completed a major research project entitle, “The Plight of Women Bidi Workers in Bundelkhand Region", and “Design and Analysis of Novel Portfolio Selection Models to Optimize on Risk Using Evolutionary Optimization Methods” funded by ICSSR, New Delhi (In Progress). He has also successfully guided eight doctoral Ph.D. scholars, 20 M.Phil. students and about 80 PG Dissertations. He is had also conducted training programs for various organizations in the country. He is also member of editorial board and reviewer of different reputed journals.


Prof. Mohd. Shamim

Prof. Mohd. Shamim is a Professor in the Department of Commerce, A.M.U. Aligarh. He got his school education from his home town Barabanki. He completed 10+2, B.Com (Hons.), Master of Finance and Control (MFC) and a Ph.D. degree from the Department of Commerce, AMU Aligarh. He was a topper in Master of Finance and Control (MFC). His research and teaching interests include Corporate Finance, Investment, Financial Derivatives, Research Methodology, and Applied Accounting & Statistics in Business finance. He got papers published in International Journal of Management (Scopus Indexed), Journal of Problems and Perspectives in Management (Scopus Indexed), International Journal of Managerial and Financial Accounting ( Scopus Indexed), International Journal of Trade and Global Markets (Scopus Indexed), Directory of Open Indexed Journals( Scopus Indexed) and Springers Book series( Scopus Indexed). He is a prolific speaker and have been invited by other universities, institutions, and colleges. He is also a visiting faculty of Institute of Chartered Accountancy of India (Aligarh Chapter). He has written a book on Financial Management and contributed many chapters in the subject of Management Accounting, Portfolio Management, Business Statistics and Security market for the Centre of Distance Education, Aligarh Muslim University.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 25 October 2025 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

Please note that assignments encompass all types (including quizzes, programming tasks, and essay submissions) available in the specific week.

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup. It will have the logos of INI and AMU.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
