ABOUT THE COURSE:
In an era where digital resources and online services are increasingly prevalent, understanding IT applications in libraries is crucial for staying relevant and effective in the field. The "IT Applications in Libraries" course is designed to equip students and library professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage modern technologies in various library settings. Effective use of IT streamlines library operations, resources and services more efficiently and cost-effectively. This course covers a wide range of IT applications, including library automation, information retrieval, digital libraries, data management, electronic resource management, social media, IPR and Internet security, data analytics, and user services enhancement through emerging technologies like Al, IOT, blockchain, etc.Upon completing this course, learners will be able to grasp the basic principles and applications of IT in the context of library services and operations, effectively manage digital collections, including e-books, databases, and multimedia resources, and integrate technologies like Al, IOT, and blockchain to enhance library services. Learners can also develop and implement IT-driven services to provide a better user experience, such as digital libraries, repositories, mobile apps, alert services, and virtual tours. This course is ideal for current and aspiring library students and professionals who want to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving field and provide cutting-edge services to their users. This course will also be helpful to learners who will be appearing for NET/SLET/other competitive exams and job interviews.

Instructor bio

Prof. Naushad Ali P.M

Aligarh Muslim University
Dr. Naushad Ali P.M is a Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, U.P India. Dr. Ali has over 25 years of teaching and research experience. His areas of interest include Information Management, Knowledge Management, E-publishing and applying Innovative technologies in Libraries. Being a promising researcher and voracious writer, Dr Ali has published six books and over 90 research papers in various national and international journals and conference proceedings. He also served as Chairman of the Department of Library and Information Science, AMU, from 2009-2012. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal, Journal of Knowledge and Communication Management (JKCM). Fourteen PhDs and 2 M.phil degrees have been awarded under his supervision and guidance. He also supervised more than 80 MLlSc dissertations. He has presented about 50 research papers at national and international conferences and seminars. He also delivered many Invited talks at national and international conferences and workshops. He has completed Seven Research projects funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the University Grants Commission. He was the Deputy coordinator of his brainchild project, "Knowledge Management in Libraries", sanctioned by UGC under the SAP (DRS-I) scheme. He is the recipient of a travel grant to present a paper at the DGl-Online Conference held at Frankfurt am-main, Germany, in 2006. He was also honoured with a Visiting Fellowship under the Indo-French Cultural exchange programme of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, to visit France for one month to conduct short-term research on Knowledge Management in 2008. He also received the HERMES Fellowship to pursue Post Doctorate (PDF) in France in 2009. His contribution to the organization and imparting of knowledge is significant as he has designed and developed a Subject Information Gateway in Information and Technology (httos://www.itsubiectgateway.info) and an E-learning portal in Library and Information Science (https://www.lislearning.in), which professionals from more than 130 countries have accessed. Prof. Ali is also an active member of national and international professional bodies like the International Council of Knowledge Management (ICKM), the International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT), the American Society for Research (ASR) ISKO, ILA, IASLIC, IATLIS, IASS etc. He was Vice President of the Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (2021-2023).

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: April 25, 2025 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

Please note that assignments encompass all types (including quizzes, programming tasks, and essay submissions) available in the specific week.

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of INI and AMU .
Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
