ABOUT THE COURSE:
The course is to develop an understanding about the basics of Library & Information Science, significance of libraries in a society, and the national and international bodies fostering the growth and development of libraries. It will realize the fundamental concepts, aims and objectives and importance of libraries in a society, will highlight the professional ethics of librarianship, five laws of library science, concept of Library legislation and features of some important library acts. It will familiarize the students and professionals with the role of various national and international library associations and organizations for the growth and development of libraries in the country.

Instructor bio

Prof. Muzamil Mushtaq

Aligarh Muslim University
Prof. Muzamil Mushtaq is currently working as Assistant Professor (Selection Grade) in the Department of Library and Information Science and Assistant Training and Placement Officer (General) of AMU, Aligarh. He has published more than 46 research publications, delivered 19 invited talks/lectures and presented 12 International and 15 national research papers at various conferences. He has written a book, ten book chapters and one book review. He has received three best paper awards as well. He has been among the top scorer of the Info-Quiz 2013 organized by Informatics Bangalore and secured 2nd position in the final stage of the quiz held at Le meridian, Bangalore. He is the editor of two international and three national journals and has been the chief editor of ILA Newsletter from 2016-2019. He has completed two ICSSR Projects and a third major research project is going on since march 2023 which is funded by ICSSR, New Delhi and working as its director. As Assistant Training and Placement Officer (General) of AMU, he has conducted many Employability and Personal Development Workshops and Training Programs for the students. He has coordinated two Annual Job fairs, two corporate meetings, and a number of recruitment drives in the campus. Besides, he is liaisoning with companies and government agencies for campus recruitment, internship opportunities, scholarships, and other career development opportunities for AMU students.


Prof. Mohammad Nazim

Prof. Mohammad Nazim is an Associate Professor in Library and Information Science Department at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He has more than 17 years of experience in teaching, research, and librarianship. He holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from AMU. Before joining AMU as Assistant Professor, he spent around nine and half years at BHU as Assistant Librarian. He has more than 72 publications to his credit, including many research articles in Emerald Insights, Taylor and Francis, and Elsevier Science journals, and a book on Knowledge Management in Libraries from Chandos Publishing (an imprint of Elsevier, USA). He has guided 36 Master's Dissertations and three Ph.D. Theses and completed two research projects funded by ICSSR. He is currently an associate editor of Library Waves, a member of the Editorial Board of Preprints.org, and a reviewer for Chandos Publishing, BMC Research Notes (an open-access journal from BioMed Central), DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology, and Scientometrics. Dr. Nazim is the topic editor of the theme Scholarly Communication of the journal Frontiers in Research Metrics and Analytics. He has also worked as the managing editor for the Journal of Indian Library Association (JILA) from 2016 to 2019. He visited Malaysia in 2018 as an invited speaker at the IFLA Knowledge Management Satellite Conference held at Xiamen University, Kuala Lumpur. His research interests include knowledge organization and information retrieval, knowledge management, open science, and bibliometric/scientometrics.

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 25 October 2025 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

Please note that assignments encompass all types (including quizzes, programming tasks, and essay submissions) available in the specific week.

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup. It will have the logos of INI and AMU.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
