ABOUT THE COURSE:
This course is highly important for developing insight among students to aspire as per their interests and aptitudes and manage their stress and anxiety to achieve better adjustment and achieve up to potential. The syllabus of paper entitled Guidance and Counselling includes pertinent and deep knowledge about various associated components of guidance and counselling. The significant aspects covered are principles, needs and functions of guidance and counselling, types of guidance including personal, social, educational and vocational, counselling approaches i.e. directive, non-directive and eclectic, pupil appraisal techniques covering standardized and non-standardized techniques. The course also subsumes topics like organization, administration and evaluation of the guidance and counselling programmes at school and university level. Role and responsibilities of guidance personnel i.e. teachers, counselors, administrators, family and community has also been elaborated in detail. It also covers the issues and challenges in implementing guidance programme in educational institutions. The course is also important for prospective teachers in order to deal problems of students in more professional manners.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Students enrolled in B.Ed., Four Years Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), B.A (Education), B.A (Psychology), PG Diploma in Guidance & Counselling, M.Ed., UGC-JRF/NET (Education) aspirants.

PREREQUISITES: All Students enrolled in B.Ed., ITEP, B.A (Education & Psychology), PG Diploma in Guidance & Counselling are eligible to take this course.

Prof. Mohd. Abid Siddiqui

DrMohdAbid Siddiqui hails from village Tajpur, District Bijnor (UP). After completing M.Sc. (Botany) from Hindu College, Moradabad, Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, (U.P) he joined Aligarh Muslim University for further education and received B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Phil. and Ph.D. (Education) degrees from Department of Education. During research he qualified JRF examination and received scholarship from UGC. He started his career as Assistant Professor in Department of B.Ed, Ganjdundwara P.G. College, Ganjdundwara (Kasganj), of Dr B.R Ambedkar University, Agra after getting selected through U.P. Higher Education Services Commission in 1999. He was appointed as Assistant Professor in Department of Education A.M.U., Aligarh in 2009 and later on got his selection as Associate Professor through general selection committee in March, 2015. Presently DrAbid Siddiqui is working as Professor in Department of Education, AMU, Aligarh since 2018.

He has three published books to his credit namely ‘Secondary School Drop-outs’, ‘Essentials of Guidance & Counselling’ and ‘Issues and Challenges of Secondary Education’. Dr Siddiqui also contributed many chapters in edited books and more than 42 research papers in journals of national and international reputes besides presenting several papers in national and international seminars and conferences.

He has successfully supervised eleven (11) Ph.D. theses and one (01) Ph.D. Dissertations. Six (06) research scholars are working under his supervision. He has also guided about 45 M.ED dissertations. His interest areas are guidance and counselling, inclusive education, educational psychology and research methodology. He regularly delivers lectures in orientation and refresher courses organized for Madrasa, school, college and university teachers as resource person. In addition to it he has discharged his administrative responsibilities successfully as President of Gymkhana Club, University Games Committee, AMU., Aligarh, Placement cum Counselling officer, Disability unit, Admission Coordinator of Class-1, B.Ed., MA (Education), DT (Diploma in Teaching), BA.B.ED. & B.SC.B.ED courses under Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), Assistant Superintendent of Examination and other academic responsibilities. He has the passion of guiding and counselling the students of all classes by engaging them in lively interaction and assisting in resolving their academic and personal issues.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 30% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 70% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

Please note that assignments encompass all types (including quizzes, programming tasks, and essay submissions) available in the specific week.

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=12/30 AND EXAM SCORE >= 28/70. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup. It will have the logos of INI and AMU.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
