We welcome you on the online course of Indian Economic Development. 

The course will deal with “Indian Economic Development” from class XI Economics. It will give an idea to the learners about the foundation of Indian Economics & its development since Independence. The course will begin with a brief background of the Indian Economy on the eve of Independence. It will familiarise the learners with sectors of Indian Economy. It will also explain the planning process in India & its impact on different sectors of the economy. The reasons & processes of Economic reforms and the impact of economy will also be analysed. The learners will get an opportunity to know some of the major challenges facing the economy such as poverty, human capital formation, rural development, inflation, employment, infrastructure & sustainable development. A comparison of the development experience of India and its neighbouring countries will provide an idea of the perspective of development in these countries. 

This is a 6 months duration course (23 weeks). Each module of the course will have four quadrants, text, video, weblinks (to know more about the concept from other resources over the web), self-assessment questions (MCQs, true/false, one word answers etc.).

Instructor bio

Dr. M.V. Srinivasan

DESS, New Delhi
Coordinator He is Associate Professor in Department of Education in Social Science (DESS) NIE, NCERT.  His areas of interest include Curriculum Development in Social Science, Programme Evaluation, Labour Economics & Economics Education. He is awarded a Ph. D by University Grants Commission. He holds lifetime membership in Indian Society of Labour Economics, New Delhi and is an Editorial Board Member of Journal of Indian Education and The Primary Teacher brought out by NCERT. He has contributed to various journals and social sciences textbooks published by NCERT. Co-Coordinator Dr. Pratima Kumari DESS, NCERT, New Delhi Dr. Pratima Kumari is working as Associate Professor in Department of Education in Social Sciences, NCERT New Delhi. She has been an expert in Economics in many live interaction programmes of MHRD-GOI Channel SWAYAM PRABHA. She contributed to the development of Learning Outcomes at the Elementary and Secondary Stage in Social Sciences, which is now a part of RTE Act. She contributed to the School Based Assessment module of National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA). She contributed to the Economics textbooks of NCERT at Senior Secondary Stage.

Course certificate

The final assessment will be conducted in the last week of the course i.e. from 24th March 2025 to 25th March 2025.
The participants will get completion certificate if they score 60% and above in the final assessment.
