Home Science trains the learners in life skills and equips both men and women in following aspects through 5 modules and 2 optional modules.
The Art and Science of Managing Home” focuses on concept of the subject in three lessons.
Food and Nutrition details about Food, Nutrition, cooking and Health via six lessons.
Resource Management trains in management of Resources, Time, Energy, Income Space, Household Equipment’s, Environment, Energy and the Consumer.
Human Development includes different aspects of growth and development in different stages of life.
Textiles and Clothing talks about fibre, yarn, fabric, textile finishes and also the selection and care of fabric.
Two optional modules are meant for choice. One is Housekeeping and second is Creative hand embroidery.

Instructor bio

Dr. Sandhya Kumar

National Institute of Open Schooling

Dr. Sandhya Kumar is working as Deputy Director (Academic) at NIOS, Noida. She has done Ph.D. (Education), M.Ed., M.Sc. (Home Science). She is serving NIOS for more than two decades (15 years as Academic Officer, 5 years as Assistant Director at Regional Centre Dehradun. She intensively involved in organizing variety of workshops and conferences etc. She has developed self-Learning material (SLM) for Home Science, vocational subjects, Quality Assurance Policy of NIOS in collaboration with COL Institution of "Reading Hour" in the Library, SOP etc. She initiated many projects in the Academic Department.

For Senior Secondary Level Passing Certificate

1. In order to obtain Senior Secondary (12th) passing certificate from NIOS, the learners are required to enroll in minimum five subjects including one or maximum two languages on SWAYAM. For examination and certification the learners must also enroll with NIOS .

2. The admission in NIOS is done through online mode only. The learner can visit the official website of NIOS i.e., www.nios.ac. in or www.sdmis.nios.ac.in . The learner can also visit the Regional Centre or nearest AI (study Centre) or designated Common Service Centre (CSC), the list of which is available on the website and take help for online admission in NIOS.
