In a pluralistic and multilingual
society like ours, the place of English as a link language cannot be denied.
This position assumes even more importance in today’s world where barriers in
communication have broken down and information technologies have modified our
lifestyles: we are fast moving towards a global village.In today’s time, a learner needs to
be equipped with working English Language abilities so that he or she interacts
meaningfully with the wide world ahead of him/her. Also, to ensure that a
learner is not disadvantaged in terms of access to other courses of study and
avenues of knowledge and information, knowledge of English is required.The syllabus for the Secondary
Course in English will aim at developing the following skills in the learners:
A. Listening skills, speaking
skills, reading skills, writing skills
B. Other Communication skills,
Study Skills, Literary skills
C. This course will also focus on - Elements of language - grammar
and usage, vocabulary
Ms. Atreyee Sinha is an Academic officer (English) at the National Institution of Open Schooling, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of education, Government of India. She has done Post Graduation in English, B.Ed. and is a qualified recipient of NTA UGC NET and CTET. She also possesses a prolific teaching experience. Previously, she served in Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti as a Trained Graduate Teacher. She has attended several Teachers’ Training programs and workshops to enrich her teaching proficiency. She has also served the responsibility of a resource person in various Teachers’ Training programs as well.
Ms. Atreyee Sinha is involved in translating various regional literatures of Bengal. She can also be found in many pedagogical and cultural collaborations with underprivileged children. She has been exploring the areas of children’s literature and animation, theatres of Absurd, autobiographical writings etc. in both her research and other practices.
For Secondary Level Passing Certificate
1. In order to obtain Secondary (10th) passing certificate from NIOS, the learners are required to enroll in minimum five subjects including one or maximum two languages on SWAYAM. For examination and certification, the learners must also enroll with NIOS.
2. The admission in NIOS is done through online mode only. The learner can visit the official website of NIOS i.e., www.nios.ac.in or www.sdmis.nios.ac.in .The learner can also visit the Regional Centre or nearest AI (study Centre) or designated Common Service Centre (CSC), the list of which is available on the website and take help for online admission in NIOS.
