This Course is meant for beginners who are keen to work in the field of event management or for those who want to start their own entrepreneurship.It provides a basic understanding of event management in the context of events and activations, that are rapidly increasing across the world. It presents the importance of event management as a growing profession and a million dollar industry. The Course takes you through the types, characteristics, advantages and scope of events, and the opportunities in the event industry based on the diversity of events such as Intellectual Properties; Social and Cultural events (weddings, festivals, personal events etc); Managed events like Promotional campaigns/ Activations; MICE; Fairs; Sports; Rural; Digital; Government events and much more. 

Entrepreneurial competencies for an event manager are covered in this Course along with the necessary soft skills and other skills, to fulfill the role requirements for delivering a successful event. The Course provides knowledge on how to establish and run the events business and takes you through the process of business opportunity assessment and developing a good business plan. It further provides insights on the successful running of an event management company.

Instructor bio

Prof. Heena K. Bijli

Indira Gandhi National Open University

Dr. Heena K. Bijli specializes in the area of Community Resource Management and Extension, and has done her Masters and PhD from Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi. Her academic career of 22 years has spanned across universities like the Aligarh Muslim University, University of Delhi, the SNDT Women’s University, S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, and Jamia Millia Islamia. With her experience in Resource Management, focus on skill development for the youth and to promote lifelong learning, she has been the driver behind the launch of Diploma in Event Management at IGNOU. This Diploma provides skills for employment and for entrepreneurial opportunity in a country with a young population, raring to go. Dr. Bijli has also designed a Ph. D programme in Home Science (Community Resource Management and Extension) at IGNOU.

Dr. Bijli is an active resource person in the area of Resource Mobilisation, Extension Education, Women and Health, Social Entrepreneurship, Event Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Partnerships for Development, Training in Life Skills, Non-formal Education, Development Communication, Gender and Technology, and Sustainable Livelihoods for various Institutions of higher learning, Colleges, Universities and B-Schools.

She has authored a book titled Women and Health: Intersectional Issues and Social Constraints and has several research contributions and publications in national and international journals to her credit. She is on the advisory and editorial board of national / international journals, and has been awarded by University of Delhi for outstanding contribution to her field.

Dr. Bijli is a member of the Academic Council and Research Council of IGNOU. She is a member of the School Board of School of Health Sciences and School of Engineering and Technology, and has been a School Board member of School of Gender and Development Studies, and School of Education at IGNOU. She is also a member of the Board of Studies of Uttarakhand Open University and the Aligarh Muslim University for Home Science. She has earlier been a member of the Board of Studies of several other universities, and is presently on various statutory committees of IGNOU.

Dr. Bijli is an esteemed member of the Educational Advisory Committee of the Event and Entertainment Management Association of India. She is an active member of the Innovations Club hosted by the National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education. She also holds membership of several learned bodies and has developed curriculum at the graduate, post graduate levels and for Ph.D in different universities. Dr. Bijli has attended various conferences, meetings and seminars nationally and internationally including the USA, Indonesia, U.A.E., Philippines and Hong Kong.
