Instructional design is one of the most dynamic fields of learning.  Instructional design acts as a blueprint to help in understanding and applying the principles of instruction to improve learning. The MDE 412 course is aimed at developing knowledge and skills for designing instruction to make learning more effective. This course deals with learning theories and their educational implications. It provides an understanding  of various  models for instructional design which can be applied in different contexts. The course explains instructional design processes as well as practices for creating effective learning environments,  which can be used  in  the  face to face  classroom, and for designing self learning materials for  distance  education. It also demonstrates the approaches for  training and e learning.  This course shall be  useful for teachers, trainers, and all persons interested in design and delivery of instruction.

Instructor bio

Dr Anita Priyadarshini

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi

Dr. Anita Priyadarshini is Associate Professor in Distance Education at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in the Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE). She is the Programme Coordinator for the MA in Distance Education (MADE) as well as Course Coordinator for the MDE 412 Instructional Design. Her areas of specialization are distance education, adult learning, and lifelong learning.


Dr Priyadarshini has over three decades of experience in open and distance learning (ODL) system. She has held leadership positions at the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), served as Director State Resource Centre for Adult Education, Rajasthan as well as Project Director Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan DEP SSA. She has trained at International Literacy Institute, Philadelphia and is a CONFINTEA Research Scholar from UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, Hamburg. 


Dr Priyadarshini’s research areas include course development models, distance learning, equivalency programmes, open schooling, programme evaluation, adult learning. She has presented papers at international/ national conferences, and conducted collaborated projects with government agencies and international bodies. Dr Priyadarshini has received the National Award on e-Governance for her work in developing the NIOS  online system by the Govt of India.
