This basic Spanish language and culture course is aimed at students with no prior knowledge of Spanish who are interested in learning Spanish as a foreign language and desire to receive cultural information on the Hispanic countries.
This 16-week Spanish language course features basic Spanish language structures in order to enable the learner to communicate in every-day settings and the socio-cultural information related to the Spanish-speaking world. This introductory Spanish course consists of 80 video sequences distributed in 16 modules. The dynamic and interactive video sequences will help you to develop your ability to understand and to speak Spanish in different contexts.
This course will introduce you to the A1 proficiency level as described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL, Council of Europe). After completing this course, you would acquire all four language skills: reading comprehension, writing, listening comprehension and speaking, as well as socio-cultural competence in Spanish language that will enable you to understand and communicate effectively with the Spanish-speaking world in the activities related to everyday situations. You will also learn to develop learning skills and strategies to become a successful language learner.
This course uses self-learning reference materials, grammar explanations, glossaries, didactic activities, cultural notes etc. in the form of e-Book. You will be able to monitor your progress by taking a number of self-evaluation assessments and a final test.

Vikash Kumar Singh is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) where he is responsible for the supervision of all aspects of the Spanish language courses. He studied at the School of Foreign Languages, Literature and Culture Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University. He specialized in Spanish as a Foreign Language methodology and Computer-Assisted Language at the Centro de Formación de Profesores del Instituto Cervantes in Spain. He is also trained in centers of excellence related to Spanish philology and literature at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, Universidad de Valladolid, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain and so on.
He is also a recipient of several research fellowships, which sponsored him as a Visiting Research Scholar at several universities in Spain. He has presented papers in national and international conferences and has a number of publications in national and international journals. He is co-author of manuals for learners of Spanish as a Foreign Language.
