In today’s world, genetic engineering plays an important role in drug discovery and pharmaceutical industries. Various hormones, proteins, interferons, antibodies and other therapeutics can be produced by introducing rDNA/foreign gene to the host organism. Genetic engineering can also be used for controlling various environmental factors like air, water, and soil pollution. It also plays a major role in waste management and bio remediation. Using this technique, the resistant varieties of crops can be developed with yield enhancement. After successful completion of the course, students will be able to learn the basic concepts of genetic engineering, its tools and techniques, cloning, applications of cloning, recent advancements and about transgenic plants and animals. The students will be able to think critically and apply their knowledge in conducting research projects.
