The basic objectives of this course are to make you familiar with different types of Information sources like Documentary and Non-documentary sources. In this course you will learn about the categorisation of information sources and how this categorisation will help you in knowing the information sources in a better way. After going through this course you will be able to describe the specific criteria for categorisation of information; and will be able to identify sources by type, content, media and publication status. In this course you will be able to see how information professionals as well as information non-professionals are acting as important sources of information. The course also deals with the reference and information services, literature search services and database services offered by libraries and information centres. The concept of user education, information literacy and user studies are also deliberated in this course. This way the present course is a complete package for you to know about information sources.

Prof. Archana Shukla

Indira Gandhi National Open University
Dr. Archana Shukla is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Library and Information Science, School of Social Sciences, IGNOU, New Delhi. She is the Programme Coordinator of Certificate in Library and Information Science (CLIS) and Post-Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN) programmes of IGNOU. She is also coordinating three Swayam MOOCs courses and one online programme. Her areas of interest include Information Sources and Services, Management of Library and Information Centres, Classification and Cataloguing, Information Consolidation and Repackaging and Academic Library System. She has many research papers and articles in reputed national and international journals to her credit. She has successfully guided 6 PhD candidates. She has more than Sixteen years of teaching experience and two years of administrative experience in the library, as Assistant Librarian.
