This comprehensive course on “Principles of Electrical Sciences” is mainly for undergraduate first-year engineering students from all branch of engineering. The content of the course covers almost all the topics of basic electrical engineering, ranging from DC and AC circuits to electrical machines and transformers. In addition to this, low voltage electrical installations and elementary calculations for energy consumption have also been covered so as to prepare the students for an in-depth study later. In this course, easy explanation of topics, plenty of examples and illustrations are also discussed. This course “Principles of Electrical Sciences”, will work as positive catalyst to boost high-quality knowledge in the field of electrical engineering.

Before assuming charge as Pro Vice-Chancellor of Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU) Bhilai, Prof. Sanjay Agrawal was Professor in Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. He is the recipient of prestigious Bhaskara Solar Energy Fellowship from the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and Department of Science and Technology (DST), India. This led him to his Post Doctoral Fellowship from Smart Grid Energy Research Centre, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),USA. Prof Agrawal received his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He has 20 years of rich teaching and research experience with specialization in Electrical Engineering. He has published more than 80 papers in international journals and authored three books. According to Google Scholar, his total citation is over 1940 with i-10 index 31 and h-index 23.He has presented papers in Sweden, Spain and USA and has given more than 50 invited talks in reputed organizations. He has also published a patents, titled ‘Improved Hybrid Solar Collector’, ‘Hybrid Photovoltaic Thermal Apparatus with V-Groove Absorber” and Sheet and tubes based hybrid photovoltaic thermal system.

His areas of interest include grid connected photovoltaic system, micro-grids, solar PV water pumping systems, power electronics, electrical machines, circuit theory, power systems and hybrid solar thermal.

His industrial experience includes working with MNCs like Johnson Control (I) PVT Ltd. He has worked on Projects like ‘Automatic power factor correction’ funded by Applied Electro-Magnetic (P) Ltd, ‘Improved hybrid solar cooker’ and ‘green house dryer’ funded by TEQIP through CSVTU, Bhilai. He has guided 08 Ph.D. scholars so far and is a member of editorial board and panel of reviewers of reputed international journals.

 He has designed and developed industry oriented programme like PG Certificate and PG Diploma in Industrial Safety. He also coordinates a skill oriented certificate course for technicians in Motorcycle Service Repair which is now also being offered to South African countries through IGNOU-GOAL, Guyana Project.

He has also developed two Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), one on ‘Principles of Electrical Science’ and the other on ‘Renewable Energy Technologies and Their Uses’ which is available on SWAYAM. He has also contributed two modules to another MOOC of SWAYAM on ‘Solar Energy and its Applications’. On the SWAYAMPRABHA channel of Ministry of Education, he coordinates a course on ‘Electrical and Mechanical Safety’. His lectures are regularly telecasted on Gyan Darshan channel, Gyan vani  radio and official facebook  page of IGNOU. His digital content is also available on Egyankosh, the digital repository of IGNOU.

He has been a member of project evaluation committees of Technical Universities within and outside of India, has been on evaluation board for different committees of AICTE, Public service commission, technical committees of international conferences and selection committees of different bodies. He has also been involved in examination related activities of national agencies, state public service commission and other Universities. He is a member of Academic Council, IGNOU and Board member of School of Engineering and School of Education, IGNOU as well as chaired different committees within the University. In addition to this, he has coordinated many Faculty Development Programme (FDP)/workshop/short-term courses sponsored by AICTE and CSTT, Ministry of Education.

 Prof Agrawal is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers, India (FIE) and  Charted Engineer  of Institution of Engineers, India.  He is also senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA (SMIEEE).
