This Course deals with the application of ICT in Library and Information Centres. It introduces you with Library automation and integrated library system. Also discusses various library automation packages along with their features and specialties. The course also covers the trends in library automation software packages. The advantages of using open source software and open standards in library system are also discussed. This course also provides an overview on the concept of digital library and discusses about digitization process.

This course will help you while working in an automated library as well as in developing digital libraries by using DSpace and GSDL. Credit-04

Instructor bio

Prof. Kunwar Singh

Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi

Dr. Kunwar Singh is a Professor in the Faculty of Library and Information Science, School of Social Sciences, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, India. He has 15 years of teaching and non-teaching experience. He received a bachelor's degree in arts from HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, Uttarakhand, a bachelor's degree in library and information science from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, a master's degree from the University of Delhi, and a doctorate degree from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

 

Prior to joining IGNOU, Dr. Singh worked in various capacities at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, and Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. In addition to teaching and research he has taken administrative responsibilities in Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

 

 

In terms of publication, he has written one book (solo), one book with co-authors, two edited books as co-editors, thirty book chapters, and approximately 60 articles in national and international journals. He has life memberships of various academic and professional bodies.  In addition, he has been serving as a reviewer and editor of some national and international journals.
