Introduction to Sand Art

By Sudarsan Pattnaik, Padma Shri Awardee   |
Learners enrolled: 45

Art is as old as human civilization. Since time immemorial, human beings have used various forms of visual art to express their emotions, feelings and communicate with their fellow beings.  Painting on the canvass and other materials have been in vogue since the day art was born. Over the years, human beings have extended their creativity to a new canvass, the vast expanse of sand spread on the river banks and sea beaches to give vent to their imagination and creativity. Sand art, though claimed to be pretty old, its practice as a form of art has gained momentum in the recent years.  It has not only provided a new dimension to human creativity, but has also become a strong medium for spreading messages on important social issues, both  at the national and international level. However, in the absence of  a formal course to provide knowledge and understanding of the sand art, and its practice, the practitioners of this form of art have remained away from the mainstream art.

This course aims to provide the understanding of Sand Art.
