Introduction to Distance and Digital Education

It is a 4 credit course at Undergraduate level. The duration of the course is 12 weeks, to be completed within 3 months. Learners can join this course who have enrolled at UG level. Besides, the course is open for the Life-long learners above the age 19 years.

The main objectives of the Course are:

  1. To discuss the meaning, growth and development of Distance and Digital Education.

  2. To discuss the need and relevance of Open learning and Digital education in the 21st century Indian society.

  3. To introduce the learners to different important aspects of DE besides the extensive use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). 

  4. To help the learners know about various Learner support services (LSS) and develop their skills to reap the benefits from such services.

  5. To help the learners to become independent lifelong learners with the use of technology within the ambit of digital learning  in the 21st century.

  6. To help the learners understand that the different courses offered through the distance mode could help them in their practical fields even if they are employed

Dr. Ritimoni Bordoloi

Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Guwahati
Dr. Ritimoni Bordoloi, the course coordinator, has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Discipline of Education at K.K. Handiqui State Open University, Assam, India since 2007. She did her PhD from Gauhati University on the topic-“Social Security and Women Empowerment”. Her research interests are in the areas of Gender Studies, Economics of Education, Political Sociology, open and distance education and so on. She has written number of research papers and articles in journals and books and presented her works in several National and International seminars and conferences. She has received the prestigious 2019 Emerald Literati Award for the paper “Transforming and empowering higher education through Open and Distance Learning in India” published in Asian Association of Open Universities Journal has been selected by the selection panel as Highly Commended. She has also received the outstanding paper award from Emerald in the year 2022. She has visited the University of Melbourne, Australia, Hanoi, Vietnam, Slovenia, South Korea for presenting the research papers in international conferences. Besides, she also visited Korea National Open University (KNOU) as Visiting Scholar in 2019 under International Staff Exchange Programme of AAOU. In 2020, she received an international project grant from the Asian Association of Open University (Indonesia) as one of proponents for conducting the research on the topic-“MOOCs for Mobilising Higher Education in India.”  Besides she has edited a book entitled “Open Higher Education in the 21st Century”, Published by NOVA Science Publisher, New York, USA which is archived by the WHO in 2021.
