Lifestyle and Non-Communicable Diseases is a 4 credit course to be completed over a 12 weeks duration. This course aims to create awareness regarding the inter relationship between lifestyle and non-communicable diseases so that the enrolled participants are able to  identify common lifestyle-related risk factors (such as smoking, unhealthy diet, and lack of physical activity) associated with the development of non-communicable diseases, and describe their effects on human health.  Explain the role of lifestyle changes (e.g., increasing physical activity, adopting a balanced diet) in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, using basic principles of health promotion and disease prevention strategies

Instructor bio

Prof (Dr) Ruchika Kuba is a medical doctor with MBBS and MD in Preventive and Social Medicine from Lady Hardinge Medical College. She joined IGNOU in 1994 and is presently the Director School of Health Sciences IGNOU.

She has been involved in planning, designing and delivering continuing education programmes through Open and Distance Education for Doctors, Nurses, health administrators and awareness programs for the general public. She has also coordinated various National and International projects and training programmes.

Dr. Biplab Jamatia earned his MBBS degree from BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, followed by an MD in Community Medicine from the All India Institute of Medical  Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Since joining IGNOU in May 2004, he has been serving as an Associate Professor.

Dr. Jamatia has actively contributed to the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of various programs delivered through open and distance learning, catering to doctors, allied health professionals, and the general population across the country.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE


30 Marks will be allocated for Internal Assessment (Final Quiz- Mandatory) which will be available at the end of the course and 70 Marks will be allocated for end term proctored examination.


A  minimum of 40% passing marks (i.e. at-least 12 marks in Internal Assessment (Final Quiz- Mandatory) & 28 Marks in external proctored examination) will be required for being eligible for SWAYAM Certificate.
