N.
Venkateshwarlu is Associate Professor, School of
Engineering and Technology, IGNOU, New Delhi. He attained his PhD in Total
Quality Management (2014) from SOET, IGNOU, New Delhi. He did his M.Tech. in
Industrial Engineering and Management (1996) from JNTU, Hyderabad. He did his
Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (1989) from University
College of Engineering, Osmania University. He also completed his PG Diploma
programmes from IGNOU in three disciplines such as Distance Education,
Operations Management, Urban Planning and Development while in service. He
shows keen interest in learning new things in education, in this endeavour, he
completed two online MOOCs courses through courseera.com and gained
“Certificate in Urban Infrastructure Management-Part-I” in 2017 and “
Certificate in Smart Cities: Management of Smart Urban Infrastructure” in 2018.
During 1997 to till date he
designed, developed and launched a 98 credits programme on “ Diploma in
Mechanical Engineering(DME)” during 2006 to 2010 as Programme coordinator. He
also developed around 32 credit course materials for B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering
programme and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering programmes as course
coordinator. At present he is developing a new and innovative programme on “Diploma
in Smart City Development and Management (DSCDM)” in online mode and ODL mode
as programme coordinator. The work is in progress.
During 1990-97, he served
in a state govt. company called Allwyn Watches Limited, Hyderabad as Asst.
Engineer; Case Assembly and was responsible for day to production of case
assembly shop floor. He also suggested few indigenous materials for
substitution of imported materials which reduced the cost of materials.
After five years’ service, he had been promoted as Asst. Manager for
Machine Shop floor and taken responsibility as Shift In charge for production
of machining parts. He effectively managed the shift production on Automated
CNC machines and general lathe, milling and drilling machines. He also
worked as Asst. Manager, Industrial Engineering Department to establish time
standards in the machine shop floor operations. He could able to manage the
shop floor productions effectively by maintaining good relationships. He was
always tried for improving the quality of materials by implementing statistical
quality control methods at shop floors.
His research interests centres
primarily on improving the quality of manufacturing products, and increasing
the efficiency of processes, machines and manpower. He also published more
research papers on Distance Education, Industrial Engineering and Management
and Total Quality Management. He has about 29 publications to his credit which
includes research articles, conference presented papers, research papers in
journals etc;.
He received a Gold Medal
for his Research Paper on “Make in India” presented at Industrial Engineering
Conference held at NIT Surat in collaboration with IIIE, Mumbai in 2015.
In IGNOU, he prepared 32 Credits of SLM for various ODL
programmes. He was coordinating Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME)
programme from 2006 to 2019, Currently he is developing a Diploma in Smart City
Development and Management. He can be contacted at:
