This course will equip all teachers, professionals and aspiring teachers to understand the very root of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) that is the Outcome-Based Curriculum Development (OBCD). This course focusses on the four distinct major components of the OBCD i.e. Curriculum Planning, Curriculum Designing, Curriculum Implementation and Curriculum Evaluation. Understanding these four components elaborately discussed in this course with relevant examples, will automatically help you to also comprehend the basic features of Outcome-Based Teaching-Learning (OBTL) and how to undertake Outcome-Based Assessment (OBA) in various situations such as classroom, laboratory, field and industry, which is the litmus test for the success of OBE.

To prepare the participants (means teachers or potential teacher) to plan for design of outcome-based engineering curricula to fulfill the need of the industry/society by comprehending different curriculum approaches. 

Module - 1:   Introduction to Curriculum Development in Engineering Education

Module - 2:   Overview of Curriculum Development Process in Engineering Education  

Module - 3:  Outcome-based Curriculum (OBC) in Engineering Education.

A variety of instructional strategies and methods will be used in this course such as, videos, power point presentations, self-learning opportunities, examples and non-examples, discussion fora, doubt clarifications, and different kinds of learning activities. You will also be getting enough opportunities to assess your own learning on various aspects of curriculum development processes especially with respect to outcome-based engineering curriculum.

Prof. Joshua Earnest

National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Bhopal
Prof. Joshua Earnest is a Professor of Electrical Engineering in National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Bhopal. He has 6 years of experience in the industry and more than 35 years in technical education, teacher training, consultancy and research. Since 1996, he has been instrumental in introducing the outcome–based curriculum development and laboratory instruction in the engineering education system in India. He has co-authored the book ‘Competency–based Curriculum’ and several engineering education related teacher training modules at NITTTR Bhopal. From 2005, online wind power training programmes for educating engineering teachers was launched for the first time in India by him. He is the coordinator of the 2018 SWAYAM faculty development programme MOOCs in ’Fundamentals of Outcome-based Curriculum for Engineering Education’. He is the Chairman of the 2019 AICTE outcome-based model curriculum for diploma in Electrical Engineering. He is also the producer-author and E–content editor of several units of 2020 AICTE-NITTT mandatory online technical teacher training programmes available on http://nittt.ac.in/. He has also authored books – ‘Wind Power Plants and Project Development’ (2nd Ed.) for the industry and another one – ‘Wind Power Technology’ (3rd Ed.), for the university system. He has also been the wind power education consultant to several overseas Universities and organisations in Sweden, China and Namibia. He has conducted more than 500 training programmes for engineering college, polytechnic and overseas teachers including industry executives. He has coordinated several engineering educational projects published several international papers related to technology and engineering education. He is a B.Sc. (Engg.) in Electrical Engineering, an M.Tech. in Heavy Electrical Equipment, Masters in Technical Education and a Ph.D. in Technical Education.

He is a Professional Technical Education System Developer& Trainerand awell experienced Civil Engineerof repute. Currently, He is a Professor of Curriculum Development (For Engineering Fields) and was Dean (Academics) and served for a long time  in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at NITTTR Bhopal. He is now with the department of Education and Research of  the Institute.During the 43 years of his service career, for the last 35years he has been demonstrating his expertise and professional competence, in areas like Human Resource Development, Worked on National Level Policy Aspects of Engineering/Technical Education system development,TES & Other consultancy  Projects, Design & Resources Development, Evaluation & Accreditation, Research Guidance & Coordination and course engagement,To his credit he has developed/produced more than 125 documents which include proposals,reports/ instructional and learning resources, curriculum documents, project & related documents, research reports  etc,.as a leader or key team member.
• More than 12 Post Graduate level Thesis/Dissertations have been guided / Examined by him of  teachers/students,
• He has conducted twenty (23)Research& Project based studies as main investigator/team member.
• 30 international/National /State level research papers and  have been authored in areas like Human Resources Management, Training and Development, Evaluation of Education Projects and Programmes, Systemic Reforms Research and Policy Planning in Technical Education ,Curriculum Development and Evaluation, Outcome Based Curriculum, Accreditation, Environmental Education & Management, Construction Management and Pile Foundations.

  • The Registration fee for the proctored exam is Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE:
  • Internal assignment score = 30%, The average of best 3 assignments out of the total assignments given in the course.
  • Exam score = 70% of the proctored exam score out of 100
  • Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score
  • You will be eligible for a certificate only if average assignment score >=10/30 and exam score >= 30/70
  • Certificate will have your name, photograph, roll number and the percentage of score in the final exam. It will have the logos of MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), SWAYAM and NITTTR. 
  • Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
