Recently, there is a shift from the traditional methods of lecture-based teaching in undergraduate engineering courses to adopt more learner-centered teaching approaches, such as Problem-based Learning (PBL). It would support the engineering faculty members to develop competencies in engineering students by focusing on the “ings” e.g. planning, communicating, designing, problem-solving rather than just having the classes which are dominated by the “ics” e.g. mathematics, physics, dynamics, electronics, etc. PBL also helps to develop problem-solving skills, self-directed learning skills and critical thinking of the students. This course has been divided into five modules like Background of PBL, Implementation issues of PBL in the Classroom, Developing Problems and Tutorial Process in PBL, Assessment and Evaluation in PBL and Domain Specific Applications of PBL with recent research trends. Aim of this course is to help the teachers of engineering education to make their students competent in long term education.

Instructor bio

Dr. Indrajit Saha

National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Kolkata
Dr. Indrajit Saha is a faculty member in the department of Computer Science and Engineering, NITTTR, Kolkata. He received his Ph.D degrees in Computer Science and Engineering and Bioinformatics from Jadavpur University, India and Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland. He has co-authored of more than 50 research papers in various International Journals and Conferences. Currently, he is a Principal Investigator of a bilateral project between India and Poland funded by DST, India on Breast Cancer research. His research interest includes Education Technology, Computational Intelligence, Computational Biology, Machine Learning, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition

If You wish to Get certified on this course you must register and write the proctored exam conducted by SWAYAM in person at any of the designated exam centers.
  • The Registration fee for the proctored exam is Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
  • Date and Time of Exams: 2nd Saturday & Sunday of May (tentative);
  • Announcements will be made when the exam registration form is open for registrations along with the url
  • The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
  • Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE:
  • Internal assignment score = 30%, The average of best 3 assignments out of the total assignments given in the course.
  • Exam score = 70% of the proctored exam score out of 100
  • Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score
  • You will be eligible for a certificate only if average assignment score >=10/30 and exam score >= 30/70.
  • Certificate will have your name, photograph, roll number and the percentage of score in the final exam. It will have the logos of MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), SWAYAM and NITTTR. 
  • Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
