This course is designed to help learners get deeper into concepts of Internet of Things (IoT) while improving their ability to handle sensor networks for the practical environments. The course content is focused around several essential aspects of IoT including: Architecture, trends, design and challenges in IoT Domain, Communication Protocols, Arduino Hardware and Programing, Practical aspects of Sensor Network Design, Cloud Computing and several essential case studies for IoT based automation systems. The practical based learning included in this course may help beginners to grow their skills to address wide range of sensing and control applications with IoT based designs. The effective use of hardware systems with case studies described in this course can build confidence of learners to implement skills in real time settings.

1.      Week 1: Introduction to IoT: Definition, characteristics, architecture, history, trends, risks, security and sensor networks, AI in IOT

2.      Week 2: Communication protocols and implementation of protocols in Contiki OS

3.      Week 3: Introduction to Arduino: Architecture, Pin diagram, ATmega328p microcontroller, sensor connectivity basis, Arduino IDE.

4.      Week 4:  Arduino-Sensor Practical: Basic interfacing concepts, LED, Switch, Potentiometer, Buzzer, Switch, Motor and LDR.

5.      Week 5:   Arduino-Sensor Practical: Interfacing LCD, DHT11, Gas Sensor, Water Level Sensor with Arduino

6.      Week 6 Arduino-Sensor Practical: Interfacing Soil Moisture Sensors, IR Sensors, Sound Sensors, Flame Sensors with Arduino

7.      Week 7: Case Study 1: Indoor Air Quality Assessment - problem statement, hardware design, programming, assessment and online data collection. 

8.      Week 8: Case Study 2: Agriculture System Management – problem statement, hardware connections, programming and analysis and recommendations

Prof. Maitreyee Dutta

National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh

Dr. Maitreyee Dutta was graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Guahati University in 1993. She was the Gold medallist in her batch even All Branch topper of that year. She did her M.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Punjab Engineering College in 1999 through GATE Scholarship and obtained her Ph.D. degree from Punjab University in 2007. She joined in National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh in 2001 and she headed the departments of CSE, ECE, ETV. Now she is the head of the department of Information Management and Emerging engineering. She was Dean, academics and Research from February 2021 to September 2023.

She had initiated many activities in Computer Science Department. She backed two projects from Ministry of IT, New Delhi and one project from Ministry of Social Justice and completed these projects which were of 1.15 crores. She also completed one Project on Securing Billion of Things under AICTE- RPS scheme. Besides these she had backed grants from AICTE to conduct FDPS, ATAl Programmes, Grant for Conference etc. She has set up two  Cyber Security Labs in the institute. She has guided 11 PhD students and now 4 candidates are dong PhD under her guidance.  She conducted free courses for the under-privileged students in collaboration with Social Welfare organization under UT Govt., Chandigarh   and for this she was awarded Rota Women distinction Award  by Rotary Club Chandigarh midtown in 2013. She had also received  Best Teacher Award from Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Uttar Pradesh in 2013. She initiated hands on projects on Robotics by the students. Under her guidance, the students participated many robotics competition at IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, Baba Farid University, Chandigarh University, Gharuan etc. She initiated to establish Innovation Laboratory in the institute and also established one Start UP named Enovate Skill in the institute.  She is the overall MOOC Coordinator in the institute. She had launched one MOOC course on Educational Video Production in SWAYAM portal. She had published 155 papers in International and National Journals and conferences. She published four books till date.

If You wish to Get certified on this course you must register and write the proctored exam conducted by SWAYAM in person at any of the designated exam centers.
  • The Registration fee for the proctored exam is Rs.1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
  • Date and Time of Exams: 2nd Saturday & Sunday of May (tentative):
  • Announcements will be made when the exam registration form is open for registrations along with the url
  • The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
  • Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE:
  • Internal assignment score = 30%, The average of best 3 assignments out of the total assignments given in the course.
  • Exam score = 70% of the proctored exam score out of 100
  • Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score
  • You will be eligible for a certificate only if average assignment score >=10/30 and exam score >= 30/70
  • Certificate will have your name, photograph, roll number and the percentage of score in the final exam. It will have the logos of MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), SWAYAM and NITTTR. 
  • Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
