    This course on OER, Open Educational Resource, is meant to create awareness among teachers to the freely available high-quality online instructional resources. OER are openly licensed online educational materials that offer an extraordinary opportunity for teachers everywhere to share, use, and reuse knowledge. It is a must for teachers to utilize these resources to enhance students learning outcomes, greater flexibility for students in the form of diverse pathways, greater flexibility for teachers to customize instructional materials and lower production costs. Thus, this course aims to promote student-centric pedagogy, and lifelong learning. Activities are included to find and publish openly licensed content for teaching and learning purpose.

Total study time anticipated is between 20-30 hours in 4 weeks with equivalence to 2 credits.

Week 1: OER Basics
Introduction to Open Education and Open Educational Resources. Discuss the need of open education and advantages of using OER in teaching learning process. `

Week 2: Open Licenses and OER Repositories
Define Open license and describe the role Creative Commons licensing plays in developing OER. Explore OER repositories and evaluate the existing OER to identify educational content and course materials to meet their needs.

Week 3: Adopt and Adapt OER
Explore various OER initiatives. Locate and evaluate OER for a specific instructional purpose. Remix or Revise an existing OER.

Week 4: Create OER
Design, develop and publish OER in variety of formats: text, image, video

Shri. A.P. Felix Arokiya Raj

National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chennai.
A.P. Felix Arokiya Raj serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Media &Technology (DEMT) at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR),Chennai. With a teaching tenure of 18 years, his expertise spans Training, Research, and Development ofInstructional Resources. Felix's training interests encompass many areas, including Learning Management Systems (LMS), Video-based Learning, R-programming, Web Technologies for Collaboration, Open Educational Resources (OER), Reference Management, and Educational Technology. He played a significant role in the project "National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT)" of NITTTR Chennai, coordinating graphics and animation development. His scholarly contributions include presenting research papers on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) at international and national conferences. He develops LMS-based courses for teacher training. Felix earned his Master's in Electronic Media Informatics from Anna University, Chennai. His research focuses on the effective design of MOOCs and their learning outcomes. Additionally, he has contributed as a co-coordinator for two SWAYAM courses, specifically, E-Content Development and OER for Empowering Teachers.

If You wish to Get certified on this course you must register and write the proctored exam conducted by SWAYAM in person at any of the designated exam centers.
  • The Registration fee for the proctored exam is Rs.1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
  • Date and Time of Exams: 2nd Saturday & Sunday of May (tentative);
  • Announcements will be made when the exam registration form is open for registrations along with the url
  • The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
  • Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE:
  • Internal assignment score = 30%, The average of best 3 assignments out of the total assignments given in the course.
  • Exam score = 70% of the proctored exam score out of 100
  • Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score
  • You will be eligible for a certificate only if average assignment score >=10/30 and exam score >= 30/70
  • Certificate will have your name, photograph, roll number and the percentage of score in the final exam. It will have the logos of MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), SWAYAM and NITTTR. 
  • Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
