The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Open Source technologies is transforming the global education landscape. In alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, educators are expected to embrace digital innovation, foster personalized learning, and create inclusive teaching–learning environments. To meet these emerging demands, this MOOC on “Artificial Intelligence and Open Source Tools for Teaching–Learning Excellence” has been designed to equip faculty, teachers, and education professionals with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience required for AI-enabled pedagogy.

By combining conceptual understanding with practical applications, the course empowers educators to design innovative, learner-centric pedagogies, adopt cost-effective solutions, and enhance institutional academic practices. By the end of this MOOC, participants will be able to design, develop, and implement AI-enabled teaching resources using open source tools, thereby enhancing the quality of education and contributing to the creation of future-ready classrooms. This programme will serve as a capacity-building platform for educators, empowering them to leverage AI and open source tools to achieve teaching–learning excellence in higher education and beyond.

Week 4:  Data visualization, Jupyter Notebooks, Orange tool

Week 5: Assessment strategies, Mentimeter, Google Forms, Google Docs, and Google Classroom.

Week 6: Interactive learning tools like Hot Potatoes, Answer Garden, Nearpod, and AI-assisted grading platforms such as Gradescope and EvalAI.

Week 7: Visual learning and effective presentation tools, and generative AI to create content without coding.

Week 8: Prompt engineering and professional-quality content creation using OBS Studio.

Week 9: Research-boosting tools—Zotero, Connected Papers, SciSpace, Research Rabbit, and ExplainPaper.

Week 10: Scilab, Virtual Labs

Week 11: GitHub Education, and crucial concepts like cybersecurity, data privacy, and responsible AI adoption.

Week 12: Future insights into responsible AI, culminating in an exciting capstone activity.

Prof. Maitreyee Dutta & Dr Meenakshi Sood

National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, Chandigarh

Dr. Maitreyee Dutta graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Guahati University in 1993 and Gold medalist in her batch. She is working in National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh since 2001. Presently, she is the Professor and Head of the department of Information Management and Emerging Engineering. From July 2015 to 2017, she was Professor and Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering department and from 2017 to 2019, she was head of the department of Educational Television Centre of the same institute. She was also Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department from 2003 to 2015. She had initiated many activities in Computer Science Department. She completed three sponsored projects from Ministry of IT, New Delhi and one project from Ministry of Social Justice. She also completed one RPS project on Securing Billion of Things from AICTE, New Delhi. Besides these she had backed grants from AICTE to conduct FDPS, ATAL Programmes, Grant for Conference etc. She has set up two Cyber Security Labs in the institute and gave the excellence fame to that lab. She has guided 12 PhD students in Image Processing and in Internet of Things and 4 are undergoing thesis work under her guidance.  She was given the charge as overall MOOC Coordinator and overall coordinator of ARPIT Courses by the director of NITTTR Chandigarh under which institute could launch 11 MOOC courses and 2 ARPIT courses till date out of which three are AICTE-NITTT modules. She had published 150 papers in International and National Journals and conferences. Many papers on IOT and Security in IOT have been published in SCI journals. She regularly delivers Expert sessions on Teaching Learning Strategies, AI tools for Teaching Learning, Leveraging Technology for Teaching Learning process inn various FDPS conducted by NITTTR Chandigarh as well as other technical Institutions and Universities viz. NIT Arunachal, NIT Delhi, IIIT Sonepat , SRM University, Amravati, Parul University, Vadodara, Vignyan University etc.

Dr. Meenakshi Sood is currently working as Associate Professor in CDC, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research (Ministry of Education, Govt. of India), Chandigarh, India. She has teaching experience of around 23+ years and worked in various institutes of repute in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Signal Processing and is Gold Medallist and Academic Award winner in Master of Engineering (Hons.) from Panjab University, Chandigarh. She has three patents published in her name and has completed number of Govt funded sponsored research projects. She has edited five books and published more than 150 research papers in reputed indexed Journals and International conferences.

Currently, she has been exhaustively involved in Implementation of OBE and NEP 2020 in technical education and higher education Institutes. She is also involved in NBA and NAAC Accreditation Process of HEIs, Innovative curriculum Design and Teaching-learning pedagogy, Updation of technical and professional competencies of professionals throughout the country. She has been resource person of various technical institutes, MMTTC, Universities for Implementation of NEP 2020 across the country. As a consultant and researcher, she has been involved in numerous studies and has done over 2Cr of consultancy under World Bank projects for capacity enhancement and skill development and leadership enhancement training of Principals of technical Institutes of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand etc.

She is also part of the core team for developing the curriculum of technical institutes of state of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi. She is on Board of Thapar University, HP Technical Education department, KIET Gaziabad, and holding the post of Executive Member ECE of Institute of Engineers, HP. Lately, she is working on developing OBE and NEP 2020 based curriculum designs, AI in education ecosystem, role of technology in pedagogy. 

Course certificate

"The SWAYAM Course Enrolment and learning is free. However, to obtain a certificate, the learner must register and take the proctored exam in person at one of the designated exam centres. The registration URL will be announced by NTA once the registration form becomes available. To receive the certification, you need to complete the online registration form and pay the examination fee. Additional details, including any updates, will be provided upon the publication of the exam registration form. For more information about the exam locations and the terms associated with completing the form, please refer to the form itself."

 

Grading Policy:

 

- Internal Assignment Score: This accounts for 30% of the final grade and is calculated based on the average of the best three assignments out of all the assignments given in the course.

- Final Proctored Exam Score: This makes up 70% of the final grade and is derived from the proctored exam score out of 100.

- Final Score: The final score is the sum of the average assignment score and the exam score.

 

Eligibility for Certification:

 

- To qualify for a certificate, you must achieve an average assignment score of at least 10 out of 30, and an exam score of at least 30 out of 70. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >=40/100.

Certificate Details:

 

- The certificate will include your name, photograph, roll number, and the percentage score from the final exam. It will also feature the logos of the Ministry of Education, SWAYAM, and NITTTR.

- Certificate Format: Only electronic certificates (e-certificates) will be issued; hard copies will not be dispatched.
