India is a country of villages; therefore, rural development is the fundamental need of its progress. This course describes the various dimensions of rural life and its development in India. It advocates the importance of community development through self help groups. The course emphasises on the health and well-being of villagers. In addition to this, the concepts of literacy and employment have been elaborated in the context of rural culture and multi-dimensional development of rural India.

This course highlights the contribution of social networking as a bridge between the various government schemes and the people of India. Sensitivity towards the environment and education, safety and energy, enthusiasm towards physical, mental and spiritual health along with simple living and high thinking have been explained for better understanding of the students. The course also outlines the benefits of community engagement through research and innovation. Students will be able to understand the various problems of any community and the possible ways to address the same.

Since communities in India have their own knowledge derived from their ancestors and lived experiences, the students need to respect and learn from them so that they can further contribute for the betterment of other communities. In a nut shell, this course will help the students to connect with the true spirit of the nation.

1. Estimated work load: Online module classes of approximately 1 hour along with field work for 3 hours in a week is expected from the students.

2. Pre – requisites for the course – Students must be willing to learn and understand:

a. The role of community engagement in national development.

b. The responsibility of Indian citizens towards community development.

3. Scheduled assignments: Total 5 assignments will be given to students. One assignment after every two modules will be conducted at the end of each unit.

Dr. Akshay Kumar Satsangi is a professor in the Department of Management, Faculty of Social Sciences at Dayalbagh Educational Institute (Deemed to be University), Dayalbagh, Agra. He is a Commerce graduate and an M.B.A. from Dayalbagh Educational Institute. He started teaching at the institute immediately after completing his post graduation in 1994 and thereafter completed Ph.D. in Management from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University (formerly Agra University), Agra. His fields of specialization are Foundations of Management, Marketing and Human Resource Management.

Nine research scholars have completed Ph.D. under his able guidance and are now working at various prestigious academic institutes of the nation. Currently, he has ten research scholars pursuing Ph.D. and one scholar as post doctoral fellow. He has published several research papers in reputed national and international journals and has attended relevant conferences and workshops.

He has authored three books - Foundations of Management, Basic Marketing and Human Resource Management published by the then Distance Education Program of Dayalbagh Educational Institute. He has mentored numerous summer training projects and dissertation work of M.B.A and M.Phil. students. He is the coordinator of entrepreneurial projects for M.B.A students which continue for the entire curriculum of eight M.B.A modules.

He is the cultural coordinator of the Faculty of Social Sciences. He has been the coordinator of the D.E.I Youth Festival team that won various cultural competitions at zonal and national levels. He was one of the key contributors in training the zonal and national champion contingent of the D.E.I. Model Parliament. He is a trained N.S.S. Program Officer and has facilitated N.S.S. Program Officers’ trainings as a resource person too. He has won numerous accolades, including the Best Teacher Award and the Best N.S.S. Program Officer Award for outstanding contribution in National Service Scheme.

Since March, 2022 he is working as one of the regional coordinators of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 and is heading five northern states. As regional coordinator, he attended an orientation program cum workshop of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan at Surat in June, 2022. A Master Trainers’ Training Program for the Master Trainers from the five northern states was organized in July, 2022 at Dayalbagh Educational Institute. Team Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Dayalbagh Educational Institute has created the MOOCs course “Community Engagement & Social Responsibility”. As coordinator, he organizes regular community based services under the guidance of honorable Director, D.E.I., Prof. Prem Kumar Kalra. A winter camp is also organized every year during winter break under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.

Prof. Akshay Kumar Satsangi’s organizational acumen has rendered smooth execution of various programs of the institute. His leadership, motivational teaching and value based management skills have enriched and influenced the students, colleagues and staff alike in twenty-eight years of his service. He aspires to share his knowledge, expertise and skills with more and more students beyond geographical boundaries.

If you want to get SWAYAM Certificate for this course, you have to register for SWAYAM Examination and write the proctored examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA: https://swayam.nta.ac.in/) in its various exam centres across India. The SWAYAM examination fee for this course is Rs.750, to be paid at the time of Exam registration.

Marks Distribution:

In this course, 30 Marks will be allocated for Internal Assessment (assignment/ discussion forum/ activity) and 70 Marks will be allocated for external proctored examination.

A minimum of 40 % passing marks (i.e. at-least 12 marks in Internal Assessment & 28 Marks in external proctored examination) will be required for being eligible for SWAYAM Certificate.

Kindly note:- The students enrolled in Universities/Institutions/Colleges can avail Credit Transfer as per UGC SWAYAM Regulations, 2021 for this course. The Host University for this Credit Transfer will be Dayalbagh Educational Institute (Deemed to be University), Dayalbagh Agra.
